BX 2200 Loss Of Power Cutting Grass HELP

Check the throttle lever itself. At about 150 hrs. mine started slowly slipping from full r.p.m. downward. Turned out the little nut on the underside of the panel was loose and it was simply slipping to lower throttle position on its own.

Replace both fuel filters - one under the tractor and one in the engine compartment. My BX did the same thing last spring and I thought I had a serious problem after replacing one filter and no change. Changed the second filter after finding it and she mows like a champ!

While I am changing the filters I thought it would be a good time to install a shut off valve in the line. Went to 3 auto stores and 2 tractor dealers, Blue and Red, no one had a valve to fit the hose on a Kubota, looks like 5/16". Has anyone installed a shut off valve? if so where did you find one??

Once I replace the filters do I need to bleed the line or with the electric pump that is not needed??

Guess this have to wait until Tuesday night. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Look in the yellow pages for "fluid power", I got mine from a Parker dealer. One 1/4" ball valve and 2 - 5/16 barbs plus a couple clamps and you are in business. On my bx1500 I pulled the left rear wheel and stuck the valve on the transmission inside the frame with a big dob of silicone. I just lays in the channel where the hose is. With the cable ties on the hose it will stay put. Seems like all the parts were about $10.00.

Turn your key to the "on" position and the pump will bleed the lines for you (wait 30 seconds or so with the key on.)

to shut off the fuel before the filters for changing filters without having diesel fuel dripping all over. I just crimp the hose with a pair of vice grips that I have first put duct tape over the ends so they are smooth. Doesn't damage the hose and is fast 'n cheap.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Problem Solved!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The fuel pump was not working. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif The protective bearing boot (towards the front of the tractor), on the shaft for the transmission fan came off, hit the wire to the fuel pump and cut power. Of course I did not figure this out until I replaced the fuel filters. I could not get the tractor started after replacing the filters. Looked around and saw the wire coming out of the fuel pump not connected to anything. Felt around and found the wire on top of the frame pulled apart with the connector destroyed. I rewired the pump, turned the key and heard the sound of the pump, let it run for about 30 seconds, fired right up. Put the deck back on, cut grass like it did before. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I have no idea how long the pump was not working. Now that I think about it I have not heard that sound in a while. So I think the pump was not running for at least the entire winter while I was snow blowing. Perhaps with a bit of clog in the filter it was enough for the engine not to get enough fuel. I was able to blow through both filters I took off the tractor.

SO when you get on your BX and turn the key listen for the fuel pump running, NOT the clock ticking. If not, check for the loose or missing wire.

I am glad I figured it out and I was able to make the repair.

Thanks for everyone who posted with possible solutions. I think we all learned something from my experience, I know I did. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

We need some pictures of that one. Feels good to find the 'loose wire' and be back to slaying grass.

Well it seems that the BX has another little trouble item to check occasionally. Last summer I went over to my neighbors garage to drop something off and noticed a puddle of fuel under his BX. Upon looking where it was coming from I discovered the front driveshaft boot was off and had traveled back on the shaft and rubbed through a fuel line. We ordered the new boots from Kubota and I installed them, it took about an hour and a half, I did it from the top by removing the floor pan. I've been keeping an eye on mine but no trouble yet. I wonder if some were just not installed right from the factory.
