This might get moved to oil/fuel and lubricant's--but here goes. I have a BX 2230 with 6 hrs on it. Love it so far. I have the BX 2750 snowblower so I will be using it all winter in the western mountains of Maine. I will store it in an unheated garage and I have a block heater. I have every intention of going to synthetic oil at the 50 hour service, but I don't really like the idea of going into our cold winters with whatever oil Kubota puts in at the factory. I would prefer to have a 0W30 synthetic in there for my COLD weather. I have always been told to shy away from the synthetics until your engine is well broken in, so that everything seats well. Should I just leave the factory oil (prob dino 10W30?) until my 50 hour service or make the change now?

I also find it interesting that although I have heard many times to let your engine break in first, the back of Mobil 1 talks about a list of high-end manufacturers that put it in vehicles from the factory.

Switch it out before you get COLD up there…
Use “Mobil 1 Truck & SUV” or “Mobil 1 Delvac 1”, they are both the same. You might also consider Amsoil if you can find a good price. (And yes there are others, but these 2 seem to be the most popular with diesel engines.)
The cold properties of synthetic will be far more beneficial to your engine than any break-in formula /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. You are right, quite a few cars come equipped with Mobil 1. KennyV.

I would do a search on break in etc since this topic has been talked about more times then people asking for money at Wal-mart!

I ran my 2230 the first winter with no heater and Kubota oil. Ran mint. At the 50 hr I went to Mobil 1 and added a heater for the 2nd winter.

I have no opinion per se. Just wanted to tell you it's running perfect just the same.

I am running Amsoil and the engine seems to be a lot quieter at start-up during the winter. Watch your warm up times in the winter. It is just as important to get the hydro oil up to temp as the crankcase. I ran the Kubota oil until the 50 hr change out.
You'll love the blower. I usually plow until the ground is frozen as I have a gravel/sand drive. Once the gravel is frozen I switch to the blower.

I wouldn't switch it to synthetic until the 50 hour break in has elapsed. It is unlikely that the engine is manufactured to such precision tolerances as Porsche, Viper and AMG Benz's that are factory filled with sythetic. You need to 'seat' the engine. You'll be happy you did in the end.
Just my $0.02 /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am pretty sure that these tractors are assembled and prepped locally at the dealer which would mean you could ask them what they put in for oil. Hopefully they use what is appropriate for your climate!
