Was out mowing some tall grass this afternoon and noticed the temp gauge got up to 4 bars. It ususally stays within the 3 bar range while mowing but I guess the taller grass put it up another bar. I cleared the radiator screen which had a little grass.

When is it time to get concerned or back off? How many bars on the temp gauge is too many?

First, you have to find out what each increment is temp wise.

My BX2200 has an old school analog gauge and when I'm out mowing heavy grass when it's 90F out, it will get up a 1/8" higher than normal. Most of the time it's at 1/2way to 3/4. Rarely does it get past that and never into the red.

I am tempted to get a digital temp sensor, but I really don't care enough. The analog one is fine enough all these years.

Don't know about your machine but my BX24 will wear the fan belt "skinny". The fan spins but slips and doesn't cool well on a hot day. Adjusting the tension or replacing the belt if needed fixes that for a couple of years. Just something to check...
