BX 24 Backhoe performance.

Generally I put load of dirt / rocks ect in the front bucket to help from dragging around. 400 hours of heavy backhoe work and not damage yet. I also tend to put my stabilizers in the ground instead of on top of the soil. Flip the pad so it digs in a little bit.

Ditto here. load of rock in the FEL and use some sommon sense. I have dug out some really big stumps with mine but I dont attack it like a full size machine. I dig around cut roots with an ax or saw and keep going until its loose. Good luck

I agree here. The BX BH is fine for its size, If it the BH is throwing you around alot , then you are not using the power of th BX BH correctly. Now this is not to say you dont know what you are doing, it just means you need to realize it time for a different angle approach to let the hydraulics do the work for you for saftey sakes. The BH SHOULD be able to lift the BX back end to move it around or cross a trench. Mine barely does it, since I don't go over the specs for relief valve. (I know some who have ;) ) lifting the tractor is not really damaging the tractor IMHO.

The BX is a lightwieght duty machine, and it works fine in many cases. It's just those who have no patience and want the job done yesterday were trying to make the BX a heavy duty machine. BX is geared towards the homeowner and lighty duty contracters that needs a small footprint machine.

Yup, filling the FEL bucket with rocks or something sounds like a good approach.

Every peice of equipment has it's limitiations and what makes them effective is the ability of hte operator using it not just the machine. I have seen people to amazing things with these SCUTs because they took the time to learn the tractor inside and out. A SCUT will not move a 1 ton boulder far but a smart operator knows that and a real experienced operator might dig a hole deep enough to bury it and nudge the boulder into the hole. You won't hear them complain about it's limitations :)

I do not have a BX24 but the instruction manual for my BX22 clearly says to fully dump the FEL buck and to engage the ground with the cutting edge and then to slightly rasie the front of the machine. in most cases i lift the front ires off of the ground with the bucket and the rears with the stabilizers and find that this greatly reduces the amount that the hoe can drag the machine around.

I don't think there's much you can do to mess up the backhoe or tractor. I know I've beat the stink out of mine on tree roots, clay, and concrete and it comes back for more.

That said, there certainly are limitations to a BX mounted backhoe. I'll stop short of calling it a toy...I reserve that opinion for the 'trailer mount' backhoes I've seen advertised. It is a SPECTACULAR alternative to a shovel and is intended for residential homeowner use. If you need to dig a hole for a septic solids tank, you need a bigger machine. If you need to dig holes for decks, azaleas, patios, etc., or dig out the odd stump, the BX mounted backhoe is perfect.

I think we operate ours the same way!!!

If you are doing a trench work the face of it by pulling up with the teeth it takes a little practice and you have to get to depth but it will dislodge the material even if spoils fall down just go in after a couple of rips and scoop it out.

Yep, you have to work with a little grace using a BX. They do a great job, but patience is a virtue. If you get too agressive with the BH, it will drag you all over the yard:D

I actually enjoy the slower pace, it's the only time I'm alone with my thoughts...That's actually kinda scary.:confused3:
