Sorry if this is a stupid question...

Is it alright to store my mower vertically? I got a new BX2660 with a mower deck a couple of weeks ago. I took off the mower, and I'm storing it on the wall. Unfortunately, this seems to be causing it to leak oil. I REALLY don't want to store it on the ground because of the space it takes up in my garage.

Is there a way to avoid this? Or is this unexpected?

I've attached some photos.

I have read a different thread awhile back about the same thing. I think the solution was store with the vent to the top.

It is my experience that with the type of gearbox that your mower appears to have, one of the plugs in the top of the gearbox when it is sitting level also serves as a vent. When serviced properly the gearbox is not full of oil. If one of those plugs on yours is also serving as a vent I am guessing that is where your leak is coming from. I would try and figure out a way to store the mower so that the oil level in the gearbox is below that vent/plug when it is tipped upright. Maybe you can tip it a different direction. Another idea would be to change the vent for a plug when you store it and back to the vent when you use it. Kind of a pain but if you are already taking the mower off to store, it wouldn't be that much more work.

It shouldn't be a problem, I usually leave mine on, but last year took it off at another farm and propped it up where it remained until we picked it up in the spring.

Mower Deck Axle LLC even makes axles for upright storage. I am afraid to post a link, but others on here use them.

I have the 54" deck and the vent leaks when I store it vertically. So far I have let it leak and I top off the oil before I use it.

wrong side. Next year flip it the other way and this time either make your own wheel stands or buy them. Its better then 250lbs on those plastic anti-scalp wheels.

Actually, I may just build a holder on the wall for it. Basically, 2 wood brackets for it to sit on, and a eye bolt and strap to hold it upright.
