BX Deck Warning

   / BX Deck Warning #11
I too have had the bolts and nuts loosen and have the entire jackshaft "flop" around. I replaced the original nuts with nylon and loctited them but Now I have a vibration and the belt slaps like crazy.. it possible I have a bent shaft. I'm not sure with the shaft loosening that the belt was stretched or burned a flat spot. I just can't beleive this is as common and no requirment for the dealers to check them with maitanence checks.:confused3:

What? no preflight check of the mower deck before first use of the season?

I check everything over before first use.

This has been an ongoing problem with mine.

Happened again today and when I took a look, the pulleys are so chewed up the bolt will slide through the widened hole. Totally unusable. I now need two pulleys and I'm sure it's a PITA to take the deck apart to replace the pulleys.

The pulleys seem to made of a softer metal. The squared plate that goes over the pulley is fine.

Is this a bigger problem with the design.

BTW, my BX24 is a 2007, purchased 11/07. 2 1/2 years old, only started to use the deck last year.

I'll have to check mine out this morning. Never gave it any thought it may have some loose parts. Great break downs too, helps to see how everything is assembled. Thanks:thumbsup:

Thanks Radioman,

I regret not downloading everything in Feb when they took it off the web.

Looks like I need two pulley sides, #170 in the diagram.

What's interesting is the Boss, # 160 looks fine.

I will try to take it apart tomorrow morning before ordering. I want to make sure, I don't have busted bearings or seals underneath.

Well, I took my deck apart and it's worse than I thought.

Here are som pics. The Pulleys are so chewed up the loose bolts must have chewed at the pulley holder or housing. The shaft still spins freely , but the bearings are visible.

I knew I was in trouble when I noticed grease and metal shavings on the deck.

In the picture with the pulley and the Boss, I know it's grainy, but take notice how the Pulley bolts holes have enlarged compared to the ones on the Boss.

I apologize for the bad pix, it's from the phone/
