Anyone else have problems with the flashers turning on by themselves even when the switch is off and than not being able to turn them off? What is the fix for this if so? It has happened to me three times.

I think it's from water getting in the switch. I only clean mine when I do service and hose all the dust and mud off. At 800 hrs, it finally happened to me this weekend ... a little too much water spray on the dash board I think. It's an old prob with many threads about it. Took some compressed air and 6 hours to stop. Good exercise for the battery. Also goofed up the head lights for a while.

It's water in the switches. Lots of threads on this.

When it happens you can pop the switch out (from below) and let it dry upside down.

Some guys have drilled small holes in the lower housing to let water out and report the problem goes away.

A nice WATERPROOF replacement switch would be a worthy upgrade project.

I have the same problem with the lights and hazards. The lights don't bother me because they only come on with the key, but I didn't want the hazards to run the battery down. All I did was pull off one lead to the switch and have never reconnected it. I never have and probably never will use the hazards but if I do it will be a quick second to stick the lead back on.

I park my BX in a garage but I have had the problem several times. The first time I was plowing snow while it was half snowing and half raining. The other times it was after I washed the tractor. I tape plastic over the switches when I wash it now.

I took one of the switches apart and there was not much water in it. I think it is a combination of water and dirt that causes it to short. There are a lot of places where water and dirt can enter. I tried to find a better constructed switch but could not find one. I ended up buying one from the dealer for $10.

Have looked in some electronic parts catalogs and have found some marine grade switches that are same size and similar wiring hookup, you could try West Marine and they could have some in stock.

annoying isnt it, we dont get so many water problems here in australia but dirt problems. dirt gets in there and does a lovely job of insulating the contact points, so nothing works. the switches are very easy to get out and with a small screw drive you can pop them apart, just unclip the little hooks on each end, just watch the spring and the contact plate, they fall out. give them a clean up on the contacts and some WD. then clip it back together. its a very basic switch, there is nothing inside them to confuse you when putting it back together.
