BX2200
I'm thinking hard about buying a post hole digger either online or from Tractor Supply. I'm sure this may have been discussed in the past but does anyone have ay recommendations? Will the BX2200 handle a 12" bit? Will there be horseposer limitations? I believe height is an issue but thought it may have been resolved with repositioning of the 3 point links?

Thanks for any advice.

I bought the Greene unit from Northern Tool, along with a 6" and a 14" auger. PHD is about $390, augers $80 & $120 respectively. I have to run the lift arms to mid-height to get their max spread and put the U-bar on first, then the other components. The augers are 42" length and have 6" clearance at full height on my BX2200. There is plenty of hp. I have hard adobe clay soil, so it must have just right water content to dig. It will sink a 4' hole in 5 sec when moisture is right. When clay is dry and hard, it won't dig. It would do fine in most other soils. For dry clay, caliche, or other hard soils you'd need the Land Pride unit which has hydraulic downpressure and a carbide fishtail auger tip. Entire unit including hydraulic modifications to BX is $1800.

Woods makes a PHD especially for sub-compacts. Model PHD25. The auger bits are 30" long instead of 42". You can get a 12" extension if you need it from Woods. I have one of these for my sub-cut and it works well.

You can look at the Worksaver model 300 also. Woods OEMs from Worksaver and I think the WOrksaver is a bit less expensive too. Either way I think this is the one that is best suited for the BX overall.

I use the Woods PHD25 on my BX2200. I have the 9" auger, but don't think a 12" would pose any problems. Downward assist was an option that I didn't purchase, but so far, I have not needed it.
