BX Quality Drop

Kubota has been making tractors for a long time, the big benefit is that they make both the tractor and the motor. Any line of tractors will have some problems, one thing is for sure with all the BX owners out there we just hear alot more about small problems!

Your exactly right, as time goes on there will be many more mechanical etc problems as individuals rack up time. Things break when used hard, it is inevitable and normal. I am looking out my window now at another neighbor mowing his field with his gigantic (as in really big) Kubota, he appears to be kicking on something near the PTO and his wife is walking circles head down. I think their kannuder valve fell off, I better go help.
Oh, knucklehead, I am not angry at anyone, /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif . J

But was that kannuder valve a rhetorical, allegorical, or anecdotal valve?

O.K., I'm not helping /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Have a Dealer about 75 miles from here that sells both the Deere Consumer line and Kubota.I stopped in one day to pick up a some filters, and a salesman asked how we liked our Kubota. The conversation soon turned to service and reliablility.

Now,the salesman and the parts man both know that I'm not there to buy a tractor,of any color, soo I don't think the sales guy was BS'in me when he said that they sold approx. 10 to 1 Kubota over Deere. He also said that the shop was full of Deeres compared to Kubota.

Now,I'm sure this guy makes a better commission selling Orange than he does Green, but they are dealing with issues every day.

We have owned 5 different Kubotas in the past 10 years, and any problems I've had are not worth mentioning.

That would be anedotal?
Hey, another difference between engineers and mechanics--when the kannuder valve does fall off the engineers run around with calculators and retape their nerd glasses while we mechanics get all happy cause we got something to fix. Why yesterday the engineers brought me a new kannuder valve to install in the XX prototype cause the installed design was not working. The new improved version was about twice as complicated. While investigating the problem I discovered the springs had not been specified as having the ends milled to be square to the spring axis. I blocked them on the mill and made them square, I then "properly" assembled the kannuder valve for the first time and reinstalled the old kannuder into the protoype. Now it works, many calculators were pulled out and even some resorted to slide rules. They even borrowed all my tape for their glasses. While high level meetings are currently being held at corporate level, the old, simple, properly assembled kannuder outperforms the new, fancy, complicated kannudertoovalve.
Engineers, what would the mechanic do without them?
Now that would all be rhetorical? J

Tres....you are too [censored] funny! I love the engineers as well. It's great being able to spend two hours to replace a blown fuse! <just throw it in there, and we'll build around it> Never did understand that logic. Logic? Oh nevermind.

Maybe allegorical?

What's a "slide rule"? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

If it's got tires and an engine it'll give you problems sooner or later. Some sooner, some later. Some small, some huge. My father had a car that had "the most relaible engine ever built" the brand boasted this. 30K miles later it was in the shop getting a new engine. BTW it had the utmost best care a vehicle could get. Ya win some ya lose some. Trouble can be brought on sooner if you loan it out to your relation, a friend etc.
Take care of your equipment it'll take care of you.

I have a BX2200 that was delivered with a box blade on it. The first time I took the blade off, I noticed that the top link was bent at the threaded portion. I am unable to screw it in any further due to the bend. The grey paint on the threads looked intact so I thought that maybe it came from the factory that way. Does this sound like the problem you had? My tractor is only 1 month old, when did the fixes start to appear? Is there some service recall reference number?

Thanks
Richard

Richard; There is a service bulletin regarding the three point hitch update. A search here on TBN should turn up the particulars. I thought only the earliest tractors were affected. Mine is serial number 52.xxx.

This only afected the early BX units. All current BX units have the updated parts. There is not a lot of difference unless you look real close. The top link appears the same externally but the stop pin punch indentations in the threads of the eyes are situated differently allowing a greater range of adjustment.
Something you may or may not realize but those threaded eyes in each end of the barrel are punched to destroy a portion of the thread so that the assembly cannot be taken apart. Do not attempt to thread the assembly apart or it may ruin it. One nice thrick is to install a grease zerk where the little screw is in the center. I assume among other things that the screw hole was how they punched the threads so it would not thread apart. My 2410 is the same way but because the top link is longer it has a grease zerk installed on each end where they accesed the threaded portion to stop punch. J
