BX radiator screen

Well- what you are experiencing is normal- but I have noticed that when its hot out and I'm using the MMM or towing heavy trailer for long ways and if the temp gauge gets a bit high, I revved up the rpms so its higher then 2800. at around 3k rpms the temps starts to plateu and drop a little. I agree that shutting off the engine if the temps are near or at red is a bad thing to do. I'd stop too and let it idle some.

I bought a pair of the fireproof silver cloth insulation "tubes" that they use to protect wiring/spark plug wires in engine bays of those souped up foreign cars. They sell them in pairs at auto parts stores.

I cut one up so that it covered the top of the sensor and a ways down the block and slid it around the wire leading back to the gauge and then reconnected the wire to the sensor. I took the BX 1850 in a field where the grass was about 2-3 feet high and started cutting it with the belly mower which really strained the motor.

Cut about a quarter acre and the needle never got as close to the red as it did when just doing my lawn.

I'd say the Kubota rep was right about that sensor being too close to the muffler.

There was an update for some bx's that fixed the radiator screen sticking issue. I'd check with your dealer to find out if your model and serial number fit into that range.

Thanks for this info. Will have to give my dealer a call and see since the screen is next to impossible to remove and install.

thanks for the info on the sending unit location. I was looking at that and wondering how or if the exhaust heat could have some effect on the reading. Will have to see if I can find some of the heat shields that you mention.

Yeah, the heat shield doesn't lower the engine temperature, but not seeing the needle going so near the red somehow irrationally gives me peace of mind.

Update from my dealer on the screen.

According to the dealer, Bota never had any service bulletins on this.
What the dealer did find is that the screen guide brackets where installed wrong which made it next to impossible to remove the screen. Brackets where installed properly and now the screen is removable. NOTE: I was not watching when they changed the brackets but will see if what they changed was obvious and post some pictures for future generations.
