hey all,
dont try this at home unless you are a confident welder. here is my ROPS cut and with the inserts welded in. the inserts are A-36 steel and i milled them with chamfers to fit inside the ROPS tubing. they are 4 inches long and are in 2 inches. then i plunged a 1/2 end mill into each side of the tubing seam into the inserts and one in the middle on the other side. they are for the plug welds shown to hold the inserts in place. the fine ripple TIG weld around the upper edge is mainly for a seal against water getting inside the tubing and rotting it out. tommorow i will slide the top half of the ROPS onto the inserts and drill and ream for snug fit for pins with snap clips. i didnt want a foldable ROPS because i didnt want anything behind me to snag something. also kubota didnt offer this option for a 2 piece ROPS that i know of. for all the safety minded people, i have the warning sticker shown in the pic. like i said, dont try this unless you are sure you know what yer doing and DONT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT THAT IT WILL WORK. im confident it will be fine. also i assume no responsiblilty for someone elses errors in modifying a saftey related part. i post a pic when im done and it is painted ( i hope kubota has matching paint)
