BX Seat Belt is Killing me, HELP

Are you referring to the Kubota Waist-Tourniquet? I've driven some cars that I wish had more of that feature (retightening). My L35 belt is on more of a natural feel, but my BX does that, i.e. keeps blood from flowing to your feet!!! There's got to be an adjustment to that somewhere, sooner or later I'll remember to check it out when the tractor is in the garage and not underneath me, with me cussing it.

Not familiar with this seatbelt but thought I would toss out a cheap possible fix (maybe temporary until "proper" engineering can de done to anchor the belt to the seat and not the tractor). I assume that this belt is a auto-retractable type with constant tension. Could you just attach some type of clip to the belt just outside the retractable mechanism? Something as simple as a standard office binder clip might work. Just my two cents...

I like the seat belt on my JD. It doesn't seem to ratchet down like the BX you are discussing. And it keeps the seat from launching me into orbit when I hit a gopher hole. But then maybe I need to adjust the seat spring tension. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Child car seats come with a metal clip that could be used perfectly to set the amount of belt that can be wound in. The only problem would be that when you remove the belt, it wouldn't retract.

I think Steve Case offered the solution--a longer belt kit for 60 dollars. The spring devise/assembly that rewinds the belt is apparently being tensioned more than you guys would prefer due to insufficient belt length ( or to generous a girth on your behalves-behinds). A longer belt would reduce the amount of tension and perhaps be easier on you guys. I do not know why I have none of these problems, with the seat, the belt, the whatever. Maybe it is because I am not much more than skin and bone.
I am nearly 200 hours now and the 'bota is runing fine and looks and smells brand new and more importantly runs like new.
These are things I have complaints about though---I would like tilt steering. I would like less plastic and more metal. I would like a slightly larger tire and wheel combination as an option. I would like a tachometer. I would like longer 3 point arms.
My fuel guage works, my transmission makes no noises and all the switches work and the steering is fine and the pedal does not stick but "may" be slightly slow to return sometimes.
Things I have noticed, I saw a slightly frayed spot on the mower belt but it does not seem to be growing, the tires wear well but are not especially puncture resistant, the plastic anti scalp rollers squeak unless I grease them. The hood rattles during start and kill but I fixed that and I think the coolant system is needing about 10% more capacity but that may be because there is to much antifreeze in the mix--will change out and see how that helps.
What I do like, the reliability, the dogged power and the little 'botas bull dog never quit trying personality. I like the low and wide stance and the stability it affords and I like the BX's manuverability. I like the flat deck and am pretty happy with the ergos over all. I like the boomerang GO pedal! I like the orange paint. I like my dealer.
Things done--header tank replaced twice by dealer, once before he got the new design in, both times at his expense. He also fixed my 3-point arms and then they got me a new set. Not much else really to mention. Oh, that lift drop control below the seat is hard to turn sometimes--oh well--nothing is perfect. J

All this talk about the length of the seat belt reminds me of the fellow who asked his wife if she'd seen his belt around the house, and she replied, "You mean it'll go around the house now?"

New member, new BX owner here...the next-to-last response hit the nail on the head. The BX seatbelt ratchet pawls don't release unless the whole belt is wound-in, unlike a car seatbelt which doesn't engage the ratchet pawls unless there is sufficient inertial force to do so, and then releases as the force returns to near zero.

I would recommend putting a wooden spring-type clothespin on the seatbelt so that it just contacts the retractor housing and prevents the belt from tightening further when your seat springs compress too much. FWIW, the springs in most plastic clothespins aren't as strong as the metal springs in wooden clothespins and probably won't hold the belt tight enough

Hey TresCrows - saw your comment - "<font color=blue>I am just wondering and please do not get angry or anything but perhaps could we stand to loose a bit of weight?--</font color=blue>"

That's why they make the BX1800 and the BX2200 right? Us big guys need the extra horses on the BX2200 to cart us around!!!

I actually laughed out loud when my dealer talked to me about wheel weights. He got a chuckle out of it too.

(Trying to get from 250 to 240 - but then I am 6'7")

I complained to the dealer about the poor ride quality and wanted to know if they sold different seat springs.
He laughed and suggested I lay off the salids and drive the BX over to the donut shop. At 5'10" and 170 lbs, the only good a longer seat belt would do, might be to help hold my pants up when I off the Bota.

I'm 6'1" and 205. So, we've covered a broad range -- 170, 205 and 250 and we all have the same complaint. I don't think improved springs would help -- when the springs give the belt cranks up. And anchoring the seat belt to the seat wouldn't cut it with a seat that tilts forward over the steering wheel.

I may give the wooden clothes pin a try.
