The switch that is present on later models to kill engine has a delay; don't know if the delay is in the switch, a module of some sorts, or the shut off solenoid. Most back up alarm people also make a switch kit which consists of a micro switch in a pot metal housing that uses a long spring whisker that allows for pedals/levers/treadles etc with short or long travel. Kinda hard to describe how they look, but they work well. NAPA, among others carry them.
