( What engine speed do others use with their MMM's??)

I run mine at 3/4 or more depending on the grass and the ground speed.

Manual page 28, Rear PTO 3068 RPM, Mid 3125 RPM, I usually run it at 3100-3150, which is about 3/4 throttle. Tach is a great addition and well worth the $$.

i don;t have a mmm, i have a rfm. and my b2400 has a a setting on the tach for PTO SPEED. which equates to 2600 rpm engine speed. i guess this is where the rear pto attachements were designed to run. to give u the best cut or whatever. i wonder why kubota puts tachs on most of their tractors but not the bx series?.

This surprises me. I just assumed that the BX would be governed to top out at around 3200 rpm at full throttle...

Are you saying that full throttle on yours is 4,000 rpm? If 3,000 = 3/4, then 4,000 = 100% line of thought...

I don't have a tach so I don't know, but that sounds kind of high.

Like I said, I just assumed that full throttle on the bx was about 3,200 rpm...

The pickup on the Tiny Tach is piezoelectric. The pickup is clamped to one of the injector lines and is capable of detecting slight expansion of the line every time the pump forces fuel into a cylinder. It converts the mechanical expansion to an electrical pulse.

Well, the manual says that "rated revolution" for the engine is 3200 RPM but I don't know if that's the same as maximum revolution. I don't have a tach yet, but have always run the mower at a few hundred rpm "by ear" below full throttle. The book on the mowing deck says to run it at full throttle for best results. Same advice my dealer gave me.

Tom, Last year I sent a letter to Kubota asking them to tell me what the ratio of engine speed was to PTO speed. Attached is a chart that I made based on their input that shows engine speed vs PTO Speed. As you can see, maximum PTO speed is achieved at about 3100 RPM engine speed. I think the max RPM on my BX is around 3200 RPM. I'll check mine tomorrow also.

The info on page 28 of the operators guide says that the mid PTO speed is 2500 RPM and the rear PTO is 540. It goes on to say that you should reduce to half throttle when engaging the PTO to prevent shock.

Much to my surprise, the full throttle on my BX2200 is 3350 RPM. So... that means that I mow grass at just over 3/4 throttle.

My kubota mechanic indicated that PTO use should be at 3/4 throttle to nearly full. That's where I use my mower. He indicated that this is an issue with lugging the engine---that's where diesel engines can be damaged.
