BX Turning Radius

Don't forget the radius is half the diameter of a circle. The 7 1/2 ft radius is a 15 ft circle. I think the BX will turn around in a 15 ft space. With a 60 inch (5 ft) mower it should mow around a 5 foot diameter flower bed. I think the deck is slightly offset so the flower bed could be smaller.:)

I think I read somewhere that Kubota measures turning radius to the outside set of tires not to the inside ones.

I think your right. I too have read that just recently somewhere....

That's what I was told when I was shopping for my BX.

With my 60" deck, I'd estimate the diameter of the cutting circle to be less than 4'. This is in 2WD, in 4WD this goes up noticeably.

Grandad4, I agree.

What I ment by full throttle, is fast vice slow. I.e. it seemed to me on my test drive that turn radius was depended on speed. The slower the tighter. Maybe I got a crappy show/test drive because I don't remember there being a break. I just took my foot off the gas.

Well, I don't know if the turn radius changes with speed. Never got mine going fast enough to drift through a turn  and I've found it usually works out better to go slow when making sharp turns . All kidding aside, I've found the biggest thing affecting turning ability is getting the front end light with too much weight on the back. But we always make sure the FEL is installed up front when there's any significant weight on the back... and the 8 ft tractor stretches out to about 12 ft, so you have to be more careful driving it anyhow.

Also, I'll drop it into Low range when doing any close maneuvering for better control. Don't know if you had the chance to do that on your test drive.

It sounds a little like the HST go pedal was a bit tricky for you. If you have not had the chance to use a hydrostat before, it does take a little getting used to, but don't give up on it too quickly. With a bit of practice, you get a feel for using the pedal nice and easy. With just slight pedal pressure, you can inch forward/backward with full control and power. Going back and forth between HST tractors and straight gear equipment (I have both types), you appreciate the precise control offered by the hydro.
