Ever wonder what your shorter BX would look like with the larger tires found on the other BXs? I got pix, if you're interested.

Fred,
You my friend are a flippin genious !!! Now we're talking. That's the look I've been looking for here in Missouri. I thought it was wheel spacers and duels at first but I was wrong (I still love your dueally BX to death Milkman but I'm petrified of losing my warrantee).

Please, please tell me how you did this and how much it set you back. You are one creative ole timer ! Thanks for sharing.

You think I'm kidding but I'm not !!! I told my dealer when I purchased mine that I wanted bigger tires and the first thing he said was "sorry, that's how the 1860 comes." I was sad but went ahead and bought my baby bota but never saw a picture of what was in my head until about 10 minutes ago. THIS IS SO COOL. I don't care if I have to spend some money for new rubber, you have boldly gone where no man has gone before and I want to be the next one t do so !!!

The story - Part 1

First, let me say, I love my 18. No, I don't want a more engine. For decades, Kubota made the "B" with far less HP than this. Even the L began with single digit HP. Amazing isn't it?

But the other BXs come with 18" front tires, while the 1860 comes with 16", which are also 1 inch narrower. The rears are 26" and 24" respectively.

I didn't mind the 24" rears, but the 16" fronts just looked out of place. The BX1500-BX1850-BX1860 models are identical to the other BXs with 3" shorter frames. That's all. It is very hard to even detect this small amount visually. To allow for MMM (belly mowers) on that slightly shortened frame, smaller diameter tires are used. All this adds up to a lower price point on this series. No other corners are "cut".

With that back ground, I began to research, read parts manuals, read the forums, and most importantly, talk to knowledgeable folks at a couple of dealerships. I wish to establish that this wasn't just a quick decision.

I don't care abut MMM's, I don't care abut my stupid pancake size rims, I want the same size wheels and tires as you. At this point, I don't care if it voids my stupid warrantee, I want the same rims and tires as you. How much will it cost me ???

So why even bother? For 99% of the people, they won't bother and won't do anything and they don't need to. Nope, not at all. So, let's put that aside. This is about wanting to, not needing to. I fuss with my pickup truck too!! I am a geek about some stuff like this. I merely report the truth, I am not trying to convince anyone of anything, OK?

Wheels and tires, as kits, can be ordered through any Kubota dealer as whole goods. There is some price difference from dealer to dealer, but you won't save a lot by shopping. Mostly you pay list, $300-400, plus whatever shipping you can dicker for.

I almost sprang for the wheels and tires used until last year on the BXs. The fronts were 18" but the wheel was still an 8", just the tire was fatter giving the larger diameter. While not everyone likes the look of the newer 10" front wheel that Kubota changed to, I personally like it. The diameter remained 18", so no diameter change was made, the tire just became a lower profile.

I was also concerned, a little bit, about rear fender clearance in moving up from a 24" to 26" tire. I measured and measured with my shop tools and carpenter's square. Yup, there was enough room. I also fiqured that I could easily re-shape that fender detail just in front of the wheel, if I needed to. Turns out, it isn't an issue. Bolt patterns are identical of course, because the hubs are identical in all BXs.
