Greetings,

Took delivery of new BX1500 w/48"mmm and FEL yesterday (Saturday). Today, I noticed when I turned the key to on, there was a clicking, buzzing noise that persisted until I turned the key to "Start". I'm assuming this is the fuel pump, and I'm hoping someone here will confirm that this is normal. Also, I noticed that it was VERY reluctant to shift into 4wd. It took a considerable amount of pedal rocking before I could coax the lever into 4WD without (I think) too much pressure on the lever. Finally, when I shut it off, it seems to stop very abruptly with what seems to be a lot of compression, almost like a thump.

Am I describing normal break-in performance, or is a call to the dealer for some post-sale adjustment in order? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It is all normal, you may have better luck shifting the 4wd when the tractor is moving. I got the 54" deck on mine to have the ability to roll it out on its own wheels.

Thanks. I figured it was, but this is my first experience with new iron. Usually, by the time I get them they're well broken in, if not broken down.

I thought about trying to shift into 4wd while rolling, but I was going by the book "shift into FWD when stopped". I guess they didn't mean it literally.

Hope I don't seem like a basket case. Now that it's dirty, maybe I'll settle down. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I wanted the 54" deck partly for the same reason, also for the added cutting width, but it just wouldn't fit thru the storage barn door.

A diesel engine has something like 22 to 1 compression ratio whereas gas engines are usually about 8 to 1.

Ok. Again, they're usually well broken-in by the time I get them. The other diesels I owned ('80 MB 300D Sedan) and own ('71? JD 820) both rolled to a peaceful, casual stop when the key is switched off. I can see I've got a lot to learn about owning new equipment. Looks like this is a great forum for that. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm not sure whether "rolling" is the right word. Personally, I'd only do it barely moving; i.e., stop and if it doesn't go into 4WD easily, barely move until it slips in.

How many hours on the BX1500? Do you wait for the glow plugs to heat before starting? 4WD - use only off road - never on pavement. You won't need it unless going up steep stuff, on slippery stuff, or if pushing hard with the front loader. It works great!

BX1500 owner - almost 300 hours now.

the 4wd lever is a finicky kind of beast. I find it easier sometimes to shift the ranger lever into neutral or high to relieve the torque load before shifting out of 4wd. Slight movement of the pedal will also help.

I've got 130 hours on my 1500 and the above still applies.

Great machine, you'll enjoy owning it.

You are either a better man than I or you are on concrete/pavement. I have that 54" deck and on gravel it doesn't move too well. I cut a couple wood chocks at an angle then used a couple 2 x 8's and made a "bridge over mine and drove over the boards then used a hand truck to put the deck in the garage. That dang thing is somewhere aroudn 300 # and I wasn't even considering trying to move it in the gravel.

always make sure you idle the engine down as low as it will go before turning off the key. The buzzing and ticking IS the fuel pump, and as others have said the 4WD lever is just a tricky little thing that you'll get used to
