Interesting. I was thinking about this for my 54" Fine Cut.

If you don't mind, how much are they?

What are your overall impressions of the BX1860. I want a 48" deck for maneuvering around trees and it looks like your stuck getting the 1860. Any complaints?

The total came to 180.00 with PA sale tax. That is for baffle and blades. I wanted the smallest tractor I could put a FEL on Even though it is Phisicaly bigger than my 20 HP Craftsman It steers a lot tighter maneuvers a lot better Also have a lot of trees.I researched a lot before I bought the 1860 It is well built and everything you need in a small package and the Bonus was the Price

I know they say to leave the chute deflector on, but I took mine off, it sure is nice not to have it hanging out there.

It's good to see the addition before it's covered in grass !

A couple of members wanted to know what was included and the price So before I laid it down took the pictures.

I drilled a hole at the back and end. That lets me hook a bungee cord on it, flip it over 180 degrees, and secure on other side of floorboard so it takes up less space when parked. Re-torquing that spring when putting the chute back on would be problematic. If grass is too thick, you will still get discharge, even with the baffles in place, so the deflector still has a functioning reason to be there.

That is what I have been doing when pulling in the shed. I already had it off to drill holes for my Cyclone Rake deck adaptor and you are right the spring is tough to get back on, But when it's time to put the adaptor back on for leaves the deflector will have to come off.

I sure don't get any discharge out the side of my deck. I have a 60" deck, but the mulching kit looks the same to me. I think its a saftey overkill to leave it on. If you look at the pictures, its pretty much blocked off 100%.

I think I will leave it on for the first mulch cut to see how the mulching goes Either the mulch kit will come off or the Deflector.

I have tall fescue which grows very fast. It rains all winter and is too wet to cut until spring. My first cut is always it full height, then I have to take it down a bit at a time. I have discharge and thatch for the first several cuttings. After everything dries some and the fescue growth rate slows, then everything mulches successfully and there is no discharge or thatch. Mulching works better with slower growing grasses or grass that doesn't send up as much vertical material. It also works best in dry conditions where (grass) blades can float around in the baffles to get the vegematic treatment. My wet conditions and fast growing fescue in the spring make for less than ideal mulch cutting. In summer, slower growth along with no rain, irrigation on Mon. & Tue, followed by cutting on the following weekend when it's dry, all offer almost ideal mulch cutting conditions. Localized conditions make a huge difference in the results one gets.

My manual states--and my experience confirms--that with mulching kit & blades it is best to keep travel speed less than 2mph to give the two level blades a good chance to cut twice

I think the mulching kit will work Just have to adjust like you say But my problem now is we already had 5 days of rain and more on the way Wish I could ship some Rain down to Texas They Really need it bad. As I am typing this we are getting flash flood warnings on the Weather Channel

Well I guess the Mulching kit is a keeper. It finally stopped raining and got to try it out. Slowed my travel speed down a little No visable signs of clumping and cut grass was about an 1" to 1 1/2 long. The deflector can come off and thats good.
