bx1860 vs 1815hst

Of course the Kubota BX1860 can lift Cat 1, 3 point implements. It is just that when one says "Cat 1 implements" it is important to understand that there is no absolute industry standard on things, just loose parameters. How tall?, how wide?, how heavy?, how .... You get the idea. It is somewhat nebulous.

SOME, a FEW, 3p implements are too tall for the BX series, regardless of specific model. Implement matching, not just height, but width and weight is an art and a science. The Mahindra 1815 would likewise run into implements that are Cat 1, but are too tall, too heavy, and too wide for useful application. This isn't a unique issue at all. A wide array of implements are available for all tractors, including subcompacts, they just need to be matched correctly. If some neighbor has a 34 horse power tractor and has Cat 1 implements matched for his tractor, your subcompact, regardless of color isn't going to match up to them, no matter what.

Knowledgeable dealer help or a wise, experienced owner of the model you are looking at can save you lots of head scratching.

Ok so basically the bx1860 can now handle most cat 1 implements? but it won't lift them? Well I am probably looking mostly at garden/grass implements, so spreaders, aerator, etc. I don't think it can handle nor will I need a backhoe.
I am really leaning towards the bx1860 right now, although for 2K more I can get the bx2360 with a 60 inch MMM, which is really tempting but I don't think its worth 2K to me.
So its $12150 a good price for the bx1860 with the 54inch mower, and the front end loader? or should I keep talking to other dealers? no one else in town came within 2K of that price, I'll have to try out of town.

Yes, it will lift them, check the website and it should tell the weight ratings on the 1860. Yes, the 2360 is nice as is the 2660, but lots of people on here find the 1860 just right for them. I don't know anything about Mahindras, so can't comment, but it looks like you have already gotten some good advice.

Let's go thru a few examples.

Back blade- There are 4', 5', 6' 7' etc. My BX1860 uses a 5' flawlessly. It is an orange XB model, by King Kutter. All these examples are Cat 1, but vary greatly by application to tractor size and power.

Box Blade (scraper) 42" 48" 60" 72"and so forth. Some, have light duty, medium duty and heavy duty. Again, match the implement correctly to the tractor. All are Cat 1, but there is a huge difference in appropriate application to which tractor.

This goes on and on. Gotta say more than Cat 1. Gotta match the implement correctly to the tractor. When you do, it is a joy to use. When you screw up, you either (A) break the implement or (B) the tractor cannot work it because it is either (A) too small or (B) too big.

Just like what others have said- go try them out at both dealers. See which feels good to you. The 60"deck is awesome, I wouldnt go smaller. I am not sure why if you did go smaller unless you got trees or buildings that won't fit with 60. The extra hp is worth the extra money for being able to run PTO implements like chippers and tillers and stuff. The 1860 will do it, but extra HP won't bog down like the smaller engine would. REmember- the engine size doesnt mean squat for pto HP. The PTO HP tends to be less then the engine HP.

An 1860 will lift them fine. Compared to a slightly larger tractor, with bigger tires and ground clearance, it just won't lift them as high.

Price wise, that doesn't sound to bad. There is a place called Barlows that you can do a price check. Do a google on Barlows Tractors and I bet you find it.

Actually, Kubota improved the geometry on the BX 3 pt hitch a few models back and it is full Cat 1. The arms open to almost 31-32" with the keeps slack, so I think the description of the BX being unable to open wide enough to accommodate "standard" 26" Cat 1 implements is a bit off mark. Lifting them high enough IS a concern with any subcut, which is low to the ground.

That said, the Mahindra may indeed be slightly more comparable to a Kubota B series given it's weight, larger wheels and tires (?), but only in SOME ways. But the Kubota B series has a 3 range hydro and some other features that make it a class superior to the Mahindra 1815, and likely costs a bit more, as well.

I think the point is that while comparing is fun, matching up perfectly in comparison isn't always possible or necessary. Check them out for yourself and make a decision based on what's best for you.

Thanks for setting me straight on the 3PH geometry. The imformation I have had on it is from customers looking at our 1815 and complaining about the 3PH geometry on their subcuts. Sorry I didn't mean to mislead anyone.

So I got two quotes now.
1*Mahindra 1815hst for 11800 with 0% for 48 months (10700 with 0% for 36 months).
2*Kubota bx1860 for $12150 with 0% for 60 months.
3*What do you guys think?

1*Compact
2*Sub compact.
3*You can't compare 2 different classes of tractors and arrive at a meaningful conclusion.

LBrown59 - I would call the 1815 Mahindra a larger subcompact. I wouldn't call it a compact. It outweighs only the BX1860 in the BX line, not the BX2360.
The OEMs like to "slot" their machines, and these two machines, though different slightly, are certainly in the comparison grouping, along with some other colors of the genre, imho. It is a fair comparison, as long as others in that grouping are also compared.

Go up a few steps in the Mahindra line of 15's and now 16's and you absolutely have a compact. These terms are all ill defined and fuzzy anyhow, but the 1815, with 18 hp and 2 range HST, is a subcompact, but with slightly larger wheels and a bit more weight than a BX1860.

LAWALLSTRACTOR - not a problem.

Mahindra 1815hst for 11800 with 0% for 48 months (10700 with 0% for 36 months).
Kubota bx1860 for $12150 with 0% for 60 months.
Both have a front end loader and 54 inch mid mount mowers.
The Mahindra can carry more, but I've heard the Kubota is a better mower.
What do you guys think?
Thanks,-Carlos

That isn't a surprise.
1*Mahindra dealers always quoted prices that pretty well matched Kubota prices, on comparable models.
1*Trouble is the 1815 and the bx1860 aren't comparable models.

1*The Kubota is a mower tractor with a loader on it, and 2*the Mahindra is a loader tractor with a mower on it.
3*The Kubota is just plain a smaller tractor. .
LAWALLSTRACTOR;
4*I guess what I am trying to say is the Mahindra 1815 is more comparable to the B series Kubota than the BX series.[/quote]
1*The Kubota is a real tractor just the same as the 1815.
2*The Mahindra is a real tractor also.
Note:Either real tractor can be ordered with or without a loader or mower.
3*Big things come in small packages:cool:.
4*Then it should be compared to a B series not a BX series.

1*Compact
2*Sub compact.
3*You can't compare 2 different classes of tractors and arrive at a meaningful conclusion.
