I hope I'm doing this right. Sorry to ask so many questions, but I'm getting close to "pulling the trigger" (purchase I mean) /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

How is the backhoe of the bx22 powered. Does it have it's own pump? I have read many times that it is very capable! But if it does not have it's own pump, is that not pretty taxing on the hydro system (5.5 gpm)? Long life is my concern.

It is powered by the tractor HYD pump. I think the tractor is always pumping at the same flow rate. I would not worry about the longivity of the unit.

Even if the pump blew and it cost around $400 to fix that would only be about 0.975% of the tractor valve. Not a bid concern in the bottom line. I have never had a problem with any tractor to date with HYD life.

No, it does not have it's own pump. It is fairly powerful for it's size. There are two bucket options when purchasing; a 10" and a 12". Depending on your soil, you may want one or the other.

It will generally dig better with the smaller bucket, given the same soil conditions. Regarding the longevity issue, that's where maintenance comes into play. From everyone I talked with, the concensus was that with proper HST fluid and filter changes, the pump should last a L O N G time. The issue is that since the machine only has a single pump, it may be a bit slower at hydraulic functions than the larger machines that have dual pumps. The flip side to this is that the machine only has one pump and it's fairly easy to get access to for replacement.

For what it's worth, I think the machine has plenty of power in the backhoe. THe FEL could use a higher operating pressure (and thus have more capacity), which you can read about in other threads here.

Mine has the 12" bucket and it has plenty of power for it. have not had any problems digging with it. you may have some problems with tree roots if they are to big, but it will snap them if you curl bucket under them. tractor was designed with loader and backhoe so it should not be a problem, as it is not an add on after the fact.

Better to ask and know then buy and not know or like!
