eBay/Craigslist BX22 eBay Auction - Is this too good to be true?!?

I too ran across one of these scams. It was on a JD 345 lawn tractor. Fair market price was about $5k. They were selling for $2.5k. Said they were from FL but would halve to ship from Europe. They wanted me to use 'Western Union Escrow' as the escrow service. I was to send the money with a fake name, tell the seller the name, they would check to see the money had 'arrived' and ship the mower. I would then change the recievers name after I recieved the product. I insisted we use E-escrow. They said no deal. Needless to say, I sill have that money.

They are doing the same thing with 4 wheelers, they used the same format that they use for the tractors.

They don't try to hack your username via your email address. They send out "fake" emails that look like it came from eBay. The "fake" email asks you to input your username and password to verify something, and once you do -- they've got your information.

We had (and still do) received several of these "spoof" e-mails and have never replied to them but somehow that person still hacked our E-Bay account, changed the password and e-mail address, and even had listed some items per the E-Bay rep that my wife spoke with. I know that there are hacking programs that go through a dictionary type of database to uncover regular words used as passwords. That's why we now use an alphanumeric password (like alternate the letters and numbers of your dog's name with your birth date - won't be on that list to be checked!) /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hi, I looked at one of those tractors too on eBay; the owner replied saying the tractor was in Denmark and that he'd ship for free for less than $3000 for the tractor. I was concerned about some kind of scam. Now I looked into a 1999 Kubota L
4200 Cab 4 Wheel Drive Loader for $3,500 also listed on eBay and the owner replied saying he was in England, the tractor was perfect and that'd he would ship it at his expense to our door. This seems like an awfully low price -- too good to be true?"

Hi, I went back to eBay and found that this listing is no longer there, but their previous number was listed as "3390301276 $0.00 -- Ended". We need a tractor and we're trying to educate ourselves as to what's available but this is scaring us.

I'm sure that there have been some good buys on E-Bay. My suggestion to you would be to look it over before you buy it. Which means if you have to go to England or Denmark to see it, enjoy the trip.
For a first time buyer who may very well be a novice, the best tractor you can buy will come from a dealer near you that you feel comfortable with. Or a used one that you buy locally that you get a tractor mechanic to look at for you (for a fee, naturally).
