Tires BX22 needs new tires

As far as a recommendation of a tire store w/ lots of tractor experience, I can wholeheartedly recommend Skander Tire, just up the turnpike from you in Evans City, PA. Very honest, very competent, good prices, and they make an effort to carry American-made tires (which is hard to do nowadays). They do a huge amount of tractor business. Skander Tire is about the only thing that makes me wish I still lived in Western PA...that, and steak salad.

I like your avatar showing you using your backhoe, but what's that big orange thing in front of the back wheel????
Nice try, but I wasn't mowing...... ;-D

Didn't really mean to call you - was just sating my experiences just as you were.
I know what ya said but I have 3 tractors with both types of tires
and I still don't see any difference between the 3 tractors when it comes to ride or lawn damage.
I don't really think AGs damaging yards is much of an issue until you get into tractors above Sub Compacts.
I also realize some are more of a lawn fanatic than are others.

Question for you,
Why do you think tractor manufacturers offer 4 or more different types of tires for their machines?
Now for the sake of argument, lets assume that each tire is actually better suited for a specific usage.
With this in mind lets break down the top 3 types.
1)Turfs. It is documented that this type of tire is best suited for finish mowing as it's wider footprint coupled w/the least aggresive tread available distributes the tractors weight better which minimizes turf damage. This is the type of tire found on commercial mowers.

2) Ags(bars), Now these are documented as the best tire for operating in soft soil. You see they have a very aggressive tread that is design to grip. Funny you don't see these types of tread on commercial mowers ain't it. Could it be they know something, just like the manufacturers?

3)Industrials, mainly designed for operation on hard surfaces, they are also considered a compromise between the Turfs and Ags. And can you guess what the compromise is?
You got it, more aggressive tread than the Turfs but less than the Ags, which produces less damage to the lawn than the Ags, simple ain't it :D

Folks, do your own research, free advise on the internet is as valuable as what you pay for it :D

I wasn't arguing with you but since you've called me out
I can't think of anything that you've put to rest......
It wasn't too long ago that you claimed an L&G Cub Cadet was the best ever mowing and snow removing machine while recommending it to others, and now it isn't worthy as you've supposedly purchased 2 BX1500's.

And to be honest, someone that doesn't have the sense enough to take the BH & FEL off when finish mowing just may not be qualified enough to know when they're damageing their lawn or not .... :D

He's not as contentious as he used to be, but just for the record, these are some other things LBrown59 has said on this board:

1. Manufactured homes and mobile homes are stronger than stick built homes. He knows 'cause he used to sell them. (I wonder if he put thousands of steel braces on the one he lived in to make it that way 'cause he was afraid of the weather.)

2. He has built decks with 2 x 4 joists that are stronger than decks with 2 x 10 joists. (I'm guessing the concrete posts supporting them must have been on 4 inch centers.)

3. He bought his Ohio License plates for $5. (I wonder if this was in 1918, but he just didn't mention the date.)

4. He bought his BX23 for thousands (about $2500) less than anyone else in recorded history. (I wonder whether his dealer is a relative who sold it to him at a loss for some reason that's a family secret.)

Junkman called on LB repeatedly to offer documentation for these claims, but LB wouldn't respond.

Ohio hasn't been considered the northwest territory since the American Revolution. LB still insists on calling it that just so he can say he lives in the first permenant settlement in the NW territory.

What Volfandt says above about some people not having sense, and the value of free internet advice, are well worth listening to.

Well back to the topic;

Crags list, Rochester, NY- turf tires on rims for a BX, $140.
Sounded like a good deal to me.

Something that hasn't been said before: It really depends on your lawn.

My brother gave me a "Yerf-Dog" CUV, one of those side-by-side things with a truck bed. It has a 150cc engine and was "proudly assembled in the USA". It was off his heavy construction work site, but has held up well.

Anyway, it had fairly aggressive ATV tires on it when I first got my hands on it...fairly reminicent of bar tires. Bearing in mind that this thing only weighs 800#, it did a good job of DESTROYING my lawn and leaving "v-bar tracks" everywhere, even when going in a straight line. I have since temporarilly replaced the rears with junk turf tires until I can engineer/install a rear differential to replace the straight axle.

I admit that I only recently reconstructed my lawn and it is currently a decent stand of grass with little root-mat and essentially topsoil on clay. I further admit that we have had a fairly wet and mild winter with alternating freeze/thaws that have left the yard "foamy", but I can still drive my tractor all over it without any damage whatsoever (~2,000# with FEL and BH on turfs) while I can't seem to go in a straight line without leaving a v-pattern behind from this glorified golf cart.

In a nutshell: Ag's rock and there are times I wish I had them. However, I would make short work of obliterating my yard if they were mounted on my tractor full time. There is nobody on the planet Earth that would ever convince me that Ag's, in my situation, would leave as little evidence in my lawn as turfs.

As Mr. Volfandt said...maybe all those lawn mower type people are onto something. The only Ag's I've ever seen mounted to a ZTR was a municipally owned Dixie Chopper in the median of Route 3. And I'll bet there wasn't any wives yelling at them about how the yard looks all chopped up in the turns.

wow, all I asked for was some advice on tires for my BX. I'm decided on buying the maxxis tires on the rims ( hundred bucks cheaper each that way)from the dealer soon as I get around to it. Prolly get fronts for now.
I'm suprised at what people do and don't do with their Kubota's. Me I'm going on 5 years, got it stuck many times, have some rust here and there. I change the oil, filters and Hydro every year with about 100 Hrs usage each year. I use my BH when I need it, use my rake, move snow, gravel and anything over 50 lbs with the loader. I bought my log splitter and split 4 cords out of 6 for the winter, yep ran it right off the tractor. Use the loader 2-3 times a week to haul in the firewood. I plan on keeping my tractor until I can't remember how to start it anymore. Thanks for all the good advice over the years and remember this is all suposed to be fun.:D

Oh buy the way I'm over 100 post so I'm a silver member now!
