2001 Kubota BX2200, 2011 Hustler Super Z 31 Kawi
The dealer's "road man" came out with the parts, and we did the 50HR on my '91 BX2200. Other than accidentally tearing the wire off the oil pressure switch duing removal of the filter with a huge pair of lock-jaws, nothing was tricky.

Of interest to the group were:
1) Be sure to grease the 'fork' for the HL range selector on the tranny. It's under the seat. We used a spray on grease. The selector moves MUCH easier now. Highly recommended. You can see how one piece moves inside the other, hit it with grease there.

2) I found I was greasing the idler pulley and not the center spindle on the deck before each mowing (2 pumps each). Double check what you are greasing. Look underneath to see what is where.

3) Because I'm in a relatively warm garage, we used Straight 30W 'Case' diesel tractor oil. He says it's all they use. Any comments from the group?

4) Was suprised to hear that the engine has solid lifters. He says they never need adjustment, regardless of what the book says.

5) He said to keep using Supert UDT while under warranty, then use a generic. Kubota demands samples sometimes for warranty work. Recommended intervals are too frequent.

As an aside, they have a BX2200 rear-end apart at the shop. The operator forced the PTO selector (rear, mid, etc). It bent the fork in the tranny allowing the detent ball to fall out and down inside the unit (or some variation of this). It all had to come apart, he wasn't sure warranty would cover it. A little grinding from moving gears is better than forcing it, so engage it a little while moving the selector.

As agreed, I pay for the parts, and the labor is gratis. On to 100 HRS!!!

Whoops, forgot to say that it's important to grease the anti-scalp rollers, we used the spray stuff again, and worked it in by spinning the wheels.

What did the parts cost you? I need to do the 50 hour service in 10 more hours. Did he change the front axle case oil? I will be doing the 50 hour service myself I think.
Thanks

Tom, Don't know yet, they are going to bill me. We did the engine oil filter even though the manual didn't call for this yet. I know the Super UDT is really expensive (he kept referring to it as 'liquid gold'. I'm guessing around $100. We didn't change the front axle oil. He said you can pretty much leave that in indefinitely.

Pat,

Thanks for the info., when you get the bill let us know how much it was, I was figuring about $100 too.
One more question.... did you have to take the deck off to do the service?

Nope, but we had to remove the front hanger which takes about 30 seconds. Pull the pin, flip it down, and detach from the front of the deck. This was necessary to get under the oil drain plug with a drain pan.

Patrick,I totally agree with everything you have listed on your 50 hr. Service. The aerisol grease sounds VERY handy, will have to pick up a can.

The one thing I don't agree with your machanic on is the service of the front axle.

I did a 50 hr. on our L4610 this past weekend. After dumping the trans. oil,I decided to also drain the front axle (a step I usually don't take).

The last 2-3 quarts that drained from the axle was pretty "dark".Axle holds 2 gallons.I did'nt catch the oil,so I could get a good look at it,it was just dark.

I also did a 200 hr.Service on our BX,decided to dump the oil from the front axle on it also(original oil).

The last 3-4 pints was also "dark",the BX axle holds 5 quarts.

I did put a drain pan under the BX,and sure enough,a lot of contamination.

That 5 quarts of oil I replaced was a pretty minor cost, this is just my opinion,I am no Technician by any means.

I just had my 50 hour service done on the BX2200 last night. Bob Wolff changed the engine oil, front axle oil, transmission fluid, oil filter and transmission filter. He put on the premium Kubota oil filter that is manufactured in Japan, it even looked a lot better constructed than the regular Kubota filter.

I was very glad Bob changed the front axle oil, since it was very dark and had noticeable metal filings in it. Bob said you don't want to leave the metal dust in the front axle, better to change it sooner rather than later. The air filter was fine as was the radiator screen. Bob doesn't skimp on changing the fluids and filters. He was going to change the fuel filters also but only 60 hours on the tractor and 6 months ownership so he will do it when he comes back in the fall. I am very happy with Bob Wolff of Woodbury Tractor company and would recommend to anyone in the New England area.
