Re: BX2200/60\"MMM

I mow tall, at leat 3.5 inches on fescue. For Bermuda and St Augustine type grasses you can go lower but I would not go much below 2.5. Remember that those numbers are for reference only. The weight of the tractor and deck will result in different cut levels depending on the type of turf and soil. I would set my scalp rollers for a higher cut even if you keep the cut setting lower.

TresCrows and all,

I was wondering about the anti scalp rollers. One place or two I noticed a slice that looked like it might have been caused by one of those rollers when I made a tight turn on a bit of a slope.

How high do you keep yours set? The manual says about 1/2 inch or less above the ground when the mower is at cutting height, if I remember correctly. I am thinking of putting mine a inch above cutting height.

Where do you run yours?

Re: BX2200/60\"MMM

Bill; I am not sure if my MMM is perfectly set up, but I run the rollers at the 2.5 inch setting with the deck set at 3.0inches. I have seen three different BX's, and none of them had the rollers and the deck height at the recommended settings.
I think experimenting is the only solution. Hope this helps.

I have been experimenting with the heights as well. I don't care for the chart recommendations as they seem to contact the lawn quite a bit more than they should. I'm trying on hole higher to see if it causes issues.

Re: BX2200/60\"MMM

I would set that 1/2 inch with the tractor setting on smooth level lawn, not concrete. Occasional scalping on an undulating surface with a large deck like the 60 inch is inevitable. J

Re: BX2200/60\"MMM

I cut my grass at the 3.5 height setting and my wheels are set at the position recommended for a 2.5 height setting. I've even considered raising the wheels one more notch.

Re: BX2200/60\"MMM

I love my BX 2200 but there is the one thing I don't like about Bota and it's how the decks hang from the mower.

If they could float their deck like Simplicity they would have the best mower with the best power in the industry. I have small hills and there is no way to keep from scalping the top and mowing the bottom long if you go up and down. You go sideways on the hill and you always get a line because of the weight shift on the deck. But, that's the way they are. Just have to live with it.

Re: BX2200/60\"MMM

I just bought my BX2200 w/ 60"mmm a few weeks ago. I thought I read in the mower manual that there's a balancing mechanism/bar that prevents the stepped mowing on a side slope. Maybe it's out of adjustment (or maybe it's garbage and doesn't really work). Someone can probably shed some light.

Re: BX2200/60\"MMM

I've never had a scalp yet with my 60" MMM! The suspension is designed to prevent that from happening, although there are certainly situations where any mower deck will...umm...hit the deck. (The 54" MMM does not have the same suspension, however)

Re: BX2200/60\"MMM

The balancing mechainism does help, but I still notice the hill lines. I loosened mine and adjusted it per the Kubota instructions, and still notice the marks. But according the manual, it serves to "reduce" the uneveness, and I think it does that. I plan on experimenting with the tension to see if it makes any difference.
