when i lift my mower deck after mowing, and am motoring along , the front of the deck bangs something pretty hard. my dealer says its normal, but i gotta think eventually something is gonna break... anyone have this problem and fixed it yet?

i cant drive it and find the banging alone... maybe a thick piece of rubber as a "bumper" ?

Don't you just love that comment from the dealer - ""It's normal"", without an explanation of what is normal about it and what is causing the noise. Gives one the impression that they are saying "I don't know", "I don't want to know", or "Tell someone who really cares". Maybe the noise comes from the MMM hitting a stop.

Mine doesn't "bang" unless I smack it with some stationary object...and you're not supposed to do that! Check the front MMM mount adjustments to insure that they are not too loose. I believe there are notes on this in the MMM manual, but don't have it handy to check.

With the deck raised, and the tractor cruising along on somewhat rough terrain, the dech is going to resonate a bit and bang in to the (top stops?). Mine does it too. Remember that they have no suspension, so consider going very slowly when moving accross the grouns. On pavement, this will not occur (so you should be alright for the commute to work!!)
If you find a fix... let me know. But they do all do this. Normal??... well I guess. Acceptable,.. nothing but perfection is truely acceptable, but I don't mind it too much. 9 gauge steel is VERY hard to break.

It is normal. The rubber cushion might quiten it. Use the lock position for transport--there will be much less banging. The banging is the "stop" lugs hitting the "stop" pads--that is why they are there. Place a thin rubber--butyl rubber or similar and glue it to the bumper with "Gorilla Snot---- 3M Super Weaterstrip. Try this...it might help: Raise the mower until it reaches the limit, turn the dial to TOP, and then lower the mower down to rest. You're probably already doing this, but when I first had the tractor, I'd raise it all the way, and turn the dial without lowering it back down. It will still bang on rough ground, but now near as much. Slow down, too. You get more seat time that way! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
