I am looking to purchase a rear blade for a BX2200. I will use this primarily for snow removal. We don't get much snow where I live in KY. Usually never over 4". I can only remember us getting more than 6" twice in my 35 years. Any recomendations on sizes or brands? Thanks

I have used a 6 ft blade behind my BX2200 for light grading and once when I removed my snowblower "too soon"!!! There are many reputable brands- I think mine is a Howse.
Do you have any other chores to perform with this blade??

If you want a really cheap solution and will not work it hard, you can try the blade at the following link, it is a 4 ft with 1 ft extensions that can be added on each end. It's cheap- in more ways than one, but it would handle snow without a problem:

WOOS1,

I want to think you would be OK with a 6' rear blade behind your BX2200 for snow 4" deep. I don't know for sure though. Wet snow is a different animal than that soft, dry, powdery stuff... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I use a 6' blade behind my B2910 but I would not fear using it behind my BX2200 either. I may even try it this winter just to see how it works. Don't have a loader for the BX though, so maybe I will just stick with the larger tractor...

My bx has loaded tires front and rear (bar) and that might be helpful if you have slopes...Whatever you buy, make sure that when it is angled it is wider than the rear tires...

My BX has an FEL on it to help with the task. I don't mind spending what ever it takes to get the job done, but I don't have the money to do this twice. I do have a Modern 6' 3-way blade that my father bought new in the early '80's. It is a cat I, but I'm afraid it will be waaay to heavy for this little tractor.

I had a 6' King Kutter blade that I sold - it just didn't fit right. Where it attached to the three point hitch it was too tall for my Bx2200, so when it was down, it never really was at a 90 degree angle to the ground. It still worked, but it just didn't fit right.
If I had it to do over, I would look at a smaller 42" - 48" blade. The Kubota blade seems to be better proportioned.
Also, I found that turning the blade around so that the convex side was facing forward plowed much better than having it facing the *right* way.
I sold my blade and purchased one for my ATV, MUCH more fun to plow with!

King Kutter makes a XB series for the sub-compacts and it's painted Orange /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif You may want to take a look at it. Of course they charge more than their standard ones, but it may be something you want to look at. I don't have one, so I cannot comment on how well it works, but have been eyeing it up for a while.

I bought a Kioti RB22-60 rear blade for my BX23 and it has been working out well. It is a 5ft blade and I have used it exclusively for earth moving so far. For doing that work I would not go any wider than the 5ft because I can bog the tractor down with this one - a 6ft would be too much. Snow would be a different thing I am sure. The reason why I got the Kioti is because it had tilt, offset, and swivel, it was painted orange to match the tractor, it was available locally, it is well made, it was the heaviest of the rear blades I looked at, and it got good reviews everywhere I looked here on tractorbynet. The Kioti is actually just a Midwest RB22-60 blade painted orange. So if there are no Kioti dealers in your area look for a Midwest dealer or you can also get the same blade from Corriher ( I believe they advertise on this site) because Midwest makes their blade also. My only problem with the blade was that I had to make some extensions for it so that the BX could lift it - the limited 3 pt on the BX would not lift it high enough so I made extensions. I hope to have pictures to post on this site in a day or so. I will update this thread when I have them.

On the back of my BX2230 I have a Kodiak 60" with tilt, and swivel. It is very well made and pretty heavy duty. It has a heavy duty cutting edge that I just sandwiched a piece of horsemat to protect my asphalt this winter. I just shot the blade with a few coats of Kubota orange this weekend, and it looks nice.

My 3 point lifts it about 14" off the ground and I can swivel the blade all the way around without hitting the ground, no mods to the 3 point

Yep, I forgot to mention that the blade I had was a non-xb seires, I just looked at the smaller xb series yesterday. King Kutter must have gotten mixed up with some marketing wizards -less material, smaller unit, costs more.
Of course we all know that orange paint costs SOO much more than the yellow that they usually use - /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Now I'm on the fence between the rear blade and the landscape rake. Perhaps the only answer is to get both, however after 20+ years of marriage, I do know that I will need to buy them early in the week so as not to have to endure a crampy wife for a full weekend. Usually the crampy effect wears off by the weekend...
