BX2200 motor cutting out ??

Been awhile since I posted here, but I still have my BX2200 and still enjoy the heck out of it.

Had an issue arise and I'm not sure where to turn. Last time I used the bota, the motor was cutting out like I'd turned off the ignition. It never completely died, as it would sputter, then take off again. Seemed to be random occurences.

So I drained the fuel, think it might be bad, and replaced both fuel filters. Didn't fix the issue. So next I looked at the seat safety switch. I removed and bypassed it to see if that fixes it. Will be next week before I mow again, so testing will have to wait til then.

If that doesn't cure it, from what I've read here, it might be the fuel shutoff solenoid or the ignition iteself. I have a parts book, but will have to search just to find the fuel shut off solenoid. Sounds like I could remove it and the motor should run (not sure how I'd kill it then?)

I'm not sure how to test to find the next issue, and I sure don't want to start buying parts hoping to get the right one.

Any thoughts or hints?

Just a thought, but could the electric lift pump. It's in front of the rear filter. It looks like a metal fuel filter. You should hear it clicking loudly when turning the key on but not starting it. If it's not working could be wiring or a fuse. You could also check it by taking loose the fuel line near the engine, putting a container under it, turn the key on and see if it pumps.

Or could be junk in the tank blocking fuel flow. Let us know if you fix it.

Did you try blowing air back into the tank? It's worth a try, but the solution may not be permanent. Some of the 2200s had bad tanks that were replaced, some got plastic in the outlet. We have a 2003 2200 as well as a 2008 2660 and over the years, changing filters, HEET for diesels and Power Service etc. worked. A year or so ago, nothing worked, so my brother stripped the 2660 down and found the outlet clogged, cleaned it out and checked the tank; good to go.

Thanks for the quick reply guys. Here's what I have learned so far:

When I replaced the fuel filters, there was still some diesel in the tank. It drained out fast enough, I know there was enough flow to run the motor.............

I did not cut the old filters open, but could not observe debris in them. After replacing the filters, it fired up immediately.

Yes, when I turn the switch on, I can hear the fuel pump clicking.

In running the mower for about 30 minutes about 2500RPM, it didn't start cutting out for 15 minutes (not sure if that is a clue or not). When it did cut out, it dropped the RPMS to about 1500, then fired off again. It probably did that 4-5 times as I was finishing mowing.

I'm hoping bypassing the seat switch for now will fix the issue. If not, then ??????????????

There are several other interlocks in the fuel circuit other than the seat switches. Had that problem on my 25 and it was the HST interlock behind the right rear tire. The 22 may be in a different place. There also is one on the PTO control on the left side behind the tire. W/O my WSM I would probably still be scratching my head. The WSM and Parts Manuals are a must if you are doing your own service/repair.

Have you ever replaced the fuel lines? Mine were cracked before I replaced them on my bx2200. I would take a look.

Have not replaced the lines, but so far, have not seen signs of fuel seepage or cracks in them.

I think there was a problem with the fuel sending unit rusting and clogging filters.

Check the fuel cap and make sure it is clean.
