BX2200 PTO Engages Abruptly

Is there any remedy to the BX2200 PTO rough engagement? Mine actually sheard the shear pin on my Rhino Cutter, but I was at full throttle when I engaged. Does moving the PTO lever slowly help? The dealer suggested I engage at low rpm. Any comments greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

It is always advisable to lower your RPMs before engaging the PTO. If you don't it is just like dumping the clutch at high rpm on a car.

That is right from the tractor manual. I engage at a 1/4 throttle or less and the engagement is still abrupt but not too harsh.
