BX2200 PTO NOISE

I have a BX2200 with 34 hours on it and was operating the pto's the other day. I didn't have anything running off of the pto's. There was a loud clacking noise coming from both the mid and rear with the engine at idle. When I increased the engine rpm's the noise went away and when returned back to idle the noise came back. Has anyone noticed this with their BX's. IS this just the nature of the beast. Also, at idle when you turn the steering wheel the noise would go away. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a BX1800 with 51 hours, I've never noticed this noise, but then I have something being operated by the PTO when engaged.

Just a guess, but with no implement attached the clacking could be the lash in the gears. As you increase engine speed the seal friction may be enough to bias the gears to the driven side, thus eliminating the clacking. Not sure about the steering interaction. In any event, it does not sound serious unless it continues with an implement engaged.

Yes, the noise goes away when you disengage the pto. I think it is probably the way their designed. Hydraulics runs everything on this tractor including the pto's. Also, they have never run an implement, still new. The mid and the rear sound the same, so it's probably normal.

100 hours on mine. I have run the mid-PTO often (mowing), and have never experienced the noise described. Although I have not attached anything to the rear PTO to date, I have tested it several times just to make sure everything is OK (including angaging both). No noises at idle. I would have it checked out.
