Yesterday, I took the rotary cutter off and reinstalled the MMM. When I went to move the PTO selector back to the mid only position, I couldn't get the handle to move. I tried engaging and disengaging the PTO, putting the tractor in nuetral, moving the tractor back and forth, stomping on the brake and turing the tractor off to get it to move. I'm not sure which finally worked but the selector finally moved and now it moves freely to all three positions and all three PTO positions work as they should. Is this something to be concerned with or was the linkage just pinched in a funny position.

Also, the handle seems like it could have been bent so I was pulling on it from under the wheel well right where the handle attached to the linkage. Seems I remember someone bending/breaking that handle in an older post.

Scott:

I have noticed the same on my BX22 as well as on several 2200 demo models at the dealer. He said that they are usually tight like that when new, and loosen up with time. I found that engaging/disengaging the pto clutch a few times seemed to help getting it to move. But you are right, don't force the lever since the relatively long handle has a significant mechanical advantage over the small linkage that it is connect to, and for sure you can bend or break something.

I also find that the Hi-Lo select lever is sometimes a bit stubborn, but a quick push through the opposite gear or spinning the trans a bit in neutral lets it drop right in. It is obviously a case of gear tooth alignment rather than being tight.

sss,

I had the exact thing happen to me a few weeks ago. It was the third time that I had tried to shift the selector on this tractor, and the thing wouldn't budge. Tried moving the PTO engage in and out---nothing. I ended up doing the exact thing you did---getting under the wheel well to see if I could get a better angle at it. It freed up and now works great.

I have no idea why it got stuck in the first place... just hope that it doesn't come back.

Ya, I've had the sticking with the hi-lo selector as well and stepping on the tranny pedal always does the trick.

I have found that engaging the PTO slightly to get it moving whiel applying gentle pressure to the PTO selector works for me when it gets stubborn...seems like sometimes the gears don't line up that well.

As for the speed range selector, i've had that happen too. What has always worked for me was moving the HST pedal a bit. Another thing that helped tremendsously was picking up some Amsoil synthetic grease and spraying it onto where the linkages meet. Made thing much smoother!

My Hi--Lo Range shifter was sticking realy bad,,,,dealer said it just needed greased,,,,. they did it and it works great now,,,my pto. selector, works great. Just cant get my dad to leave in mid position,,,,,,he want to run both together,,,,,he said it vibrates down on its own?

I just checked out the "linkage" closely...wow it's deep in there. I'm going to have to take the rear wheel off to see a little better.

Mine "came back".....I'm gunna try some grease. It looks like a bear to get in there though. As I said earlier, it seems you'll have to take the wheel off to access the shaft.

Nah, you can get in there. The can of Amsoil synthetic grease comes with a long tube that will direct it where you want it. I got all my linkages without taking the wheel off.
