bx2200 runs rough when it gets hot

thanks for the info i am leaning that way also. has to be that or injector pump. really thought i would find low compression on one cylinder but i checked them with the engine warm and they were all within a couple pounds of each other??
oh well the hunt goes on!!

the engine is not overheating according to the temp gauge. it gets rough after the engine gets up to operating temp. i too am leaning toward an injector since i have eliminated pretty much every thing but fuel delivery. it is also not an intermittent miss. once it starts it is constant and seems to be from the same cylinder. not what i would call a dead miss but maybe a light fire?? but you can hear a definite change in the exhaust note. a slight popping sound i guess is the best way to describe it.

Loosen the lines on each injector one at a time and it will pin point which injector it is. If you are real observant you can tell by the spray if it is a delivery valve. A weak delivery valve will give a weak leak from the line when you crack the nut.

If you have one of those infra-red heatgun thermometers, point it at each exhaust port while the engine is running.
The cylinder that is having a problem should be cooler than the others

A lot of people, including me didn't think it was the injection pump. I don't know how you test it. I also don't know if there is a way to test injectors, but that would be something I'd be looking at. You also might want to make sure the small lift pump is working. You should be able to here it clicking if you turn the key but don't start the tractor. These will fail, but the main injection pump will pull fuel from the tank, just not enough.

The way your decribe it, it sounds like its missing on one cylinder. If the valves are opening and closing at the right time, if you have plenty of compression, then it seems like it has to be fuel related. If the lift pump is getting enough fuel to the main injection pump, they it has to be a fuel line between the main pump and injector, the injector itself, or the main injection pump.

thanks for the info. hoping it is an injector and not the pump easier and cheaper to fix. the lift pump is new & working as it should (i found that out the other day when i was doing compression test and forgot to plug off line!!)

Firebird, I think you jinxed me, thanks buddy.
My BX1500 just started doing the same thing only it is intermitent, I know the engines are different but the fuel systems are the same.
It almost seems like the system that operates the fuel shutoff solenoid is malfunctioning, where every 15 or 20 seconds or so, the engine cuts out for just a split second then runs fine. Sometimes it will go several minutes or half an hour with no problems . It only seems to do it while I am mowing, I can't duplicate the problem while I am sitting still with the hood open. I would like to watch the solenoid at the moment that the engine cuts out to see if that is the problem
Maybe that is the problem with yours.
