My BX2200 is stuck in low gear and even after following the
recommended pressing of the forward/reverse pedal, its remains stuck. I have rocked the tractor back and forth without any luck. Bypassing the start switch and driving the tractor around in low did not help either. The front wheel drive lever shifts ok along with all the other selectors.

I'm hesitant to hammer on the transmission shifter below the seat but that's an option.

I've had the tractor about 3 years, used it only 240 hours with less than 4 hours use in low gear. Its mainly used for cutting grass and it seems like tilling with it has done it in.

With it being stuck in low gear, please don't recommend Viagra. If that would help, I'd give it some.

A few times my 2200 is hard to shift out of gear. While barely moving, I pull on the lever and it comes out.

I would be leary of hammering on something--it's pretty fragile.......

Mine also gets stuck sometimes in 4 wheel drive, and I have found that if I shift from low to high and then slowly back up or move forward while pulling on the lever, it will come out of 4 wheel drive. I believe that if you do the same thing, put it into 4 wheel drive and then move the tractor slowly forward or back wards, it will also pop out of low gear. Once you have it back in neutral, pull the 4 wheel drive lever out. I believe that the problems is related of dirt getting into the shift mechanism. I spray the levers underneath with WD40 and that usually works. I don't recommend Viagra unless your tractor is healthy enough to do the job. If you plan on using the tractor for more than 4 hours, then seek medical advise first.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've found that what seems to work best for me when the gear lever hangs is to reduce the throttle to idle and press firmly on the brake pedal for a few seconds then try to gently pull the gear lever into neutral. I think it mentions to do this somewhere in the manual.

I don't know why, but it seems to work, though not always the first time. Occasionally I have to repeat the procedure once or twice, but it hasn't failed me yet. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BTW, I would really advise against hammering on the lever. They are definitely not built to take abuse. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I do understand your frustration, however. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

This is a fairly common problem, a few threads in the past covered it. Bottom line is you should try spraying some WD40 or similar lubricant on the linkage for the range lever. It is on the right side under the seat. For most of us this solved the problem. Many times it was a problem when the tractor was fairly new.

Give it a "shot" and you may find that it will work smoother than ever before.

I have had success getting the tractor out of low gear.

After letting it sit for 12 hours and spraying the linkages with WD-40, I was easily able to get it to neutral. I don't know if it
was the cooling down or the WD-40 but it worked great. Its fairly new with just a few hours use in low so I'm thinking it was probably the lubricant that did the trick ....

Thanks for the help .....
