bx2200 tiller

I guess I will give my 2 cents to ...

I have a 48 inch First Choice tiller, weights about 375 lbs, and it works great on my BX2200. Got it for $1078 including shipping from SweetTractor.com.

SB,

Mind telling us what you paid for the KK tiller?

The 48" KK tiller was $1000 and part of the tractor purchase.

Interestingly, it came w/ a slip clutch after the salesman told me it was shear bolt protected. And he told me it was chain drive and it's gear drive. I guess he doesn't know much about his tillers.

It's a b*tch to attach b/c 1) it's heavy and 2) it fits up so close to the tractor (tight quarters), but the dolly makes it *much* easier to wiggle on the lift arms. I did turn the attachment pins in and that helped too.

One thing I should mention is that when I lift it all the way up on the 3pt while the the tiller is running off the PTO it chatters a lot. I'm not sure if that is because the angle gets steep for the universal joints or it the dealer didn't cut the shaft right. I avoid the noise by just lifting the tiller to clear the ground. Seems to me I noticed this same sound in a former life and former tractor when I lifted a bush hog way up while at full pto speed.

I bought it locally here in NW FL.

I bought a Bush-Hog 48" tiller for my BX2200 instead of the Kubota model, on my dealer's advice. His opinion was it was a heavier duty unit.
It works great. Currently using it for a second season.

What model? The web site has a 38" and 50". How much did it cost?

Mark, et. al.

I bought a Caroni 48" from Agri-Direct, it was $970 with curbside delivery and came with a slip clutch. It weighs in at just over 400lbs. It works great, although I really don't think I would want one that weighed any more than this. And getting the slip clutch adjusted was a pain, but now that it's done, it works very well.

Mine also "chatters" when raised while it is running, although it doesn't seem to matter what speed the PTO is turning. Somebody on another thread, I can't remember who, cautioned me on the noise. If the shaft hasn't been cut down far enough, it may be binding when raised. If it is, it could be doing damage to the tiller and the tractor PTO shaft (i.e. the transmission), even when the PTO isn't engaged. My understanding is that the lateral stress on the PTO shaft could destroy seals, etc. In my case, I verified that it wasn't the shaft binding, so I am assuming it is the U-joints making noise when the shaft is severely angled.

I just checked the manual, lift at the lift points is 1210 pounds, and 24" behind the lift points it is still 680 pounds. Just for reference.

Here you go

http://www.agri-supply.com

I looked at the Caroni tiller also and was torn between it and the one from Sweettractor. But when I read all the fun some people had setting it up and how it looked like it sat around for a while as the paint was faded and rusted, I went with the First Choice model. For a few extra $$$ I thought it was worth it. The shipping was also about half the cost from Sweet as it would have been from agri supply. At the end the Caroni was a few $$ more with shipping. The tiller from Sweet was ready to go, i.e. filled with oil and greased, while I hear the Caroni you had to do all of this. If you want more info on the First Choice tiller check out this web site http://www.sicma.it/. look at the ZLL model and you will see what it looks like. You also can visit www.caroni.it and check out the Caroni tiller. I think either tiller will work well it is just how much time and effort you want to put into getting it ready. Just my 2 cents

Good luck and let us know what you buy.

kyoders - Doesn't the PTO get to it's shortest length when the tiller is lowered - And that is when it would bind? If the PTO shaft is cut too much, you could have a problem with too little overlap when fully extended (raised?).

I would say that the chattering is due to excessive u-joint angle when raised. It's good to avoid, but most importantly don't place any load on the tiller when it's chattering.
