Hi guys,

I felt compelled to register and ask a question after talking to my local Kubota dealer. I have a 3 yr old BX 2200 w/ a little over 300 hours on it. (extremely nice shape) I really want and thought I was going to trade for a new 2350. After going over my machine that I have to trade he came up with a boot price of $5500.00. Is this in line or does it seem a little steep to you? I am eagerly awaiting your opinions /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
This is the basic tractor w/ 60" MMM

I'm not sure I'm understanding. Please help me out. Is "boot price" what the dealer wants in addition to your trade-in to give you a new 2350 with 60" MMM?

If so, what does he want for the same new 2350 tractor and MMM without a trade-in? Then we could figure how much he's giving you for the bx2200.

That tractor set up new was around $9500 or so. Guess 50% markdown may be in the right neighborhood.

We all love newer toys and all but why do you want to sell so bad? I mean is taking a big hit necessary.

I've not looked closely at the 2350, but isn't it just an newer 2200?

If it is, sounds like you'd be paying a real premium for it.

I've thought about wanting something bigger, but sure don't want to take a hit on selling my now.

No I don`t really "need" to upgrade, this one does real well. It`s just that the taxman wants me to have a little more depreciation and I thought it might be time to upgrade one of my "fun" pieces of equipment. Guess I`m living in the past a little when I could trade a much larger tractor for around that $20.00/hr mark. Thanks for the reply`s I do appreciate it. I guess I just have to decide if this is worth it for me or not. Thanks again.

If your looking to trade up and get more depreciation, I would look at getting the BX24. At least then you also have Backhoe to play with /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif er I mean work /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The new 2350 is essentially the 2200 so $5500 difference for a 3 year newer is sounding awful steep to me especially with only 300 hours on yours.

I would sell yours outright if you really want to go that route and you will probably lower that differential.

Good luck whatever you choose.....heck it is only money. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

If you are depreciating, that means business use, right? Thus if you sell outright you'll be taxed on any gain over your basis. Trade it in and you will not recognize gain or loss, just an adjusted basis in the new one (ie, lower).

Them's the (tax) breaks.

one ps--When I wanted to upgrade tractors the first time round, I found a private buyer for my 1720 Ford and then asked the dealer from whom my new one was coming to handle the paperwork to make it legally a trade. Not all dealers will do that for you and there may be some cost to the dealer (gross receipts tax, etc) depending on their jurisdiction's ordinances/laws, which you may get charged. But it is really a paper wave and IMHO perfectly legal if handled correctly--but get your own advice on it, folks (DISCLAIMER).

I've done it more than once, but timing (buying/selling), etc, can be a problem.
