Jeff,

The 2410 and 7500 are pretty much the same size. The 2710 and 2910 are about 10 or 12 inches longer, and a little bit wider too.

My reason for recommending people at least consider buying a size larger, particularly for first time buyers, is that our (since I was one until recently) frame of reference includes the tasks we currently perform with hand implements. Even those of us that had a garden tractor don't have enough experience to anticipate how we might use a 'real' tractor.

Using the PC analogy, I don't know how many times I have asked first time PC buyers what they want the PC for. Most can list a few tasks, e.g., email, finances, etc. They buy a PC that will perform these tasks only to find 3 to 6 months later, they'd like to work with digital pictures (shoulda bought more memory and a larger hard drive) or they'd like to do some graphics work (shoulda bought a larger monitor and a faster video card). The same thing happens with tractors albeit at a much higher price point.

Mike,

While generally, I'd agree with you, and to a certain point I still do, tractors can be a different can of worms. You can have too big of a tractor, while a larger, faster PC will always do smaller tasks, this isn't always true for a tractor.

The BX vs 7500 is a perfect example of my point. I have a ditch in the front of my home that I tried a 7500 with...it wanted to tip over when I started to use it, while the BX handles it just fine. Another....mowing in tight areas; the BX's smaller profile fits better, and is nicer to a manicured lawn. Another: Fitting the tractor inside sheds, as not everyone can afford to build a garage for their tractor.

All that being said, it is still wise to consider a larger tractor if you might need it, but remember that it can have a down side as well. In my situation, I might have liked a 2410, but it was too big for my application, as was the 7500.

Jeff,
I have to say the 2410 was still physically the same size as the 7500, I basically went up in HP, 300 lbs in weight, and 250 lbs in FEL lifting capability. That really appealed to me.

Excellent points. Some uses can either rule certain tractors in or out of consideration.

How about going to New Hampshire and negotiating the price down a little and then paying no tax?
