BX2200, will it start at 0F?

I have a B2710 that I use mainly for snow removal. The tractor sits outside. I found last year that it was quite difficult to start around 0F. A couple of times, I had my doubts it would fire but it eventually did. I was running the original factory oil at the time.

This year, I switched to Mobil 1 Delvac 5W40 oil (synthetic) and added a block heater. I plan on only using the block heater if it won't start otherwise. Here in the mountains of northern Utah, we regularly dip below 0F.

My B2710 is bigger than your BX2200, but I've been EXTREMELY pleased with my front mounted Curtis snow blade (I also have a rear mounted blower.) I had a 12 HP Toro walk behind 2-stage blower that would take me about an hour to clear 150' of driveway. I can now clear over 600' of driveway in the same amount of time with my front blade (we added a new garage behind our house with lots more driveway down to it.) I use the blower for drifts, cutting back the edges left by the blade and eating through the piles that slide off the metal roof on the house. The blade is much faster to work with than the blower.

let me just throw in my 2 cents when it comes to front blades. i love them for snow removal. i dont have one anymore, but i did on my old JD 140 lawn tractor. it was 48" amd could get through 15" of snow with only wheel weights. i cannot see how a bx with 4wd and loaded tires could not take on 2+ ft. of snow. i would have a front blade on my b2410 except that it costs too much and i have a fel and rear blade.

I agree with kokopelli2.

I used to have a 48" front blade on my Garden Tractor. Had chains on the tires and no wheel weights and it worked fine.

When I got my B6100 (14hp 4WD loaded tires front and rear) I adapted the GT snowblade to attach to the FEL and that's what I used last year. We had one snowfall of about 12" of snow and I cleared my 350' driveway and the subdivision's 1 mile of roads (all gravel) with it. Looking forward to more snow this year it was so much fun pushing that snow!

Should I be looking at Kubota's blade (the one with hydraulic up/down and angle). Is this hard to take off/put on after intial installation? What should I expect to pay?

Thanks,

I have a BX2200 with a block heater and had no problems at all starting it last winter if the heater was plugged in for 30 minutes or so before. The coldest it probably was last year was about 30 degrees below zero, and the tractor was in a unheated garage. Without the heater it was somewhat hard to start if the temp was <10 degrees.

Will it start - h*ll yes. Around late December last year I bought a used BX2200 w/ 95 hours on it and had to let the owner hold it till late February. Kept under an open shed roof in N.Ohio. I picked it up in sub-zero weather and after ~3 months on ice it started right up.

Wheeldog's concern ...
>I believe it was a B2100(?) [...] wasn't really heavy enough
>same boat with the BX2200 since it is even lighter

may be true, but the BX2200 specs at 1300lbs and the B2100 at 1428 (just 128lbs more). I don't think the difference in weight is anything worth mentioning. The BX2200 is a lot lower but has a smaller wheelbase so I can't really say how they stack up in stability. If you want any extra traction (and I doubt you'll need it) put a heavy tiller or boxblade on the back as counterweight.
