BX2200

Am thinking of purchasing a BX2200 for my 4 acres of fairly steep cliff side garden. Have been doing it by hand for the last 4 years but think a compact would help with all the lugging, mowing (about 1.5 acres of albeit very slow growing grass which only needs cutting once a month) etc.. I would need to collect - its quite damp here in the UK. Is there a larger collector than the 3 bag one? Am thinking also of a trailer plus fel.
I still haven't discovered about 1.5 acres which is overgrown and v.steep. I think I could make occassional use of a backhoe and have read that one might be in the pipeline. Does anyone have the latest on this?

Well, keep in mind that my answers are relavent to the US market, and Ive read here that things vary from country to country. Here in the States, it looks like Kubota isn't going to do a backhoe for the BX2200, but they are going to market a new model, the BX22 that ships with FEL and Backhoe. Basically it sounds as if it's a modified BX2200 with a bit more support in the back end and a folding ROPS for the hoe. Other than that, the specs are very similar. It comes with the LA210 loader and the BT600 backhoe.

There are some options for the bagging, but I don't know whats available in the UK.

Nice to see another UK member, I have only come across one other - Richard Lee - apart from myself. In fact he only recently purchased a BX2200 for a similar situation to yourself and the feedback he has given is very positive. If it is any interest to you I located a dealer who gave a very good price on the BX. I can't remember the details so if you are interested I will find out when I get home.

I'd definitely be interested to learn of a dealer who might be a bit keener on price. I've spoken to a couple but they all quote exactly the same discount!!

... can you define cliff-side a little better?

I know a little about the stability of the chalk cliffs along the south coast of England -- enough to know that you will want to have a healthy safe distance between the cliff-edge and any equipment you are on. Every spring seems to bring a rash of news stories about cliff edges collapsing as some hapless cow or person walks along innocently taking in the view. I can only imagine the risk with the tractor would be significantly higher.

Yes - not quite the same stuff as you use to draw on blackboards but it's chalk.

To give you an example this was the price I was quoted:

Kubota BX2200 with front loader. £7000 plus VAT (note this is for a 4WD) plus the loader at £1600 plus VAT. Total £8600 plus VAT (RRP is £11045.00 plus VAT) This price is ex. Portsmouth or Southampton docks.

Unfortunately it seems there are no plans to introduce the forthcoming BX22 to the UK.
'...we have no plans to introduce a BX2200 c/w backhoe. KUK stopped supplying backhoes earlier this year due to the declining market demand for small backhoes throughout the UK and Eire, and there is no intention to reintroduce them'. (Marketing Manager KUK).
I'd be intetrested to learn, however, when you think it might be launched in the US as it might be worth my importing one direct.
