BX2230 can\'t pull

I tried to drag my old septic tank on a piece of plywood across the level lawn to the field and found the weight to be overwhelming to the machine. I was kind of surprised. It has only 12 hours on it and perhaps it isn' broken in yet. I really have no idea what the tank weighs. I have included a shot for estimates. Am I expecting too much?

Without seeing something next to the concrete it is hard to judge the size of the chunk, so I won't guess on the weight. But I've found when dragging heavy things, it is often easiest to drag them if the front end of the object is elevated, even if only elevated 1". The fact that you put it on plywood should help, but is there any way to elevate the front lip of the plywood for dragging purposes?

BTW, are you dragging the plywood with the grain or against it /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif ?

Well at full throttle low range and full pedal it should it move or spin the tires. I drug a 12 x16 shed with mine over 1/2 mile on 4x4 skids. I agree with Bob that it is probably just digging into the ground. Try putting your chain or watever around that small end on the left hook the chain to the three point and lift it as high as the three point will lift and then try to drag it.

I would first make sure you are in low speed/gear (the turtle).
Also try 4 wheel drive. (lever near turtle wirh 4 wheels activated)

If that doesn't work, you can start by slowly moving it, step by step with the BH. I moved a 4 foot by 3 foot boulder this past weekend with the BX23 BH when the FEL wouldn't push it an inch.

Break down and purchase the right tool to do the job. You need a landscape rake, not a chunk of concrete. If you have an established lawn with low spots, get a load of loam and fill them till they are level. If it has heaves in it from the winter, then get a lawn roller. If you need to sink something in a pond, attach the concrete so it doesn't float to the top. Full pedal is the worse thing you can do. It puts you in the equivalent of a higher gear.

as a leveling device.

did you try the flip, floppin' boogie? Use your FEL and flip it over and over...or push it...

It's hard to tell how big the concrete is, but appears to be pretty large.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I have taken Junkman's advice and got the right tool for the job... a sledgehammer /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif. I refuse to open it right up until its has a few more hours on it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That chunk will weigh in at about 1800 pounds, maybe 2200.
