Hi, I'm new to this forum and new owner of a slightly used BX2230 (160 hrs).

On the dash panel, below the row of 5 lamps for: turn signals, glowplug, charging system, and oil pressure, there is a row of three lamps that I haven't found discussed anywhere in the manual. Does anyone know what these are supposed to indicate?

The rightmost of the three is left and right arrows backlit by a green lamp, ie. [< >] On my tractor this lamp is always on when the key is switched on.

At first I thought it might indicate a problem in a light circuit since the hazard lights didn't seem to work. While going through all the combinations of switch positions for the lights, the hazard lights started working so I'm guessing the previous owner probably never used them and the switch contacts were just dirty. Anyway, the above mentioned lamp is still on..

You have turn signals, headlights and finally to the far right the hazards.

I might be wrong about the positions. I'm at work. Sorry

ByronBob,

You get an indicator lamp for the headlights? Mine must not work. And the turns and hazards are indicated by lamps at either end of the upper row of five. Just to verify, are you identifying the three lamps I asked about, or the three switches?

The three lamps are below the row of five lamps but above the row of three switches.

Thanks

Mine only has a bulb in the center of the three sockets in the bottom row. It's for the HST and isn't really mentioned in the manual. The other two I can't remember the symbols, but I planned on putting a light in one of them and attaching it to a parking brake switch. I'd look to see if the wiring for the other ones looks to be from the factory or home made. Maybe they made different versions of the same model tractor too, who knows.

The dash and wiring harness is used on more than one tractor model and consequently, there are wires and lights on the dash that are not connected and serve no useful purpose on your tractor since they were intended for another model tractor that shares the same parts as with your tractor. This is a method of Kubota to simplify the parts availability and keep the cost of production reasonable. Just like on your car, not every wire terminal is used since you didn't order it with every conceivable option.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Someone said in a previous post that they shone a light up from the underside and one of those was a high-beam indicater and the rest I cannot remember but the gist of it was that they were for the Japanese (or other) market and not used in North America.

Brake light indicator on an ignition hot wire is a great idea! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Thanks for the replies guys.

I got under the panel this evening and there is only a bulb in one socket and the other two are empty. The left one is blue with a headlight icon, the middle is red with an HST and the right, as I said above, is green with two arrows.

So at this point, I'm guessing that the one bulb which was in the right-hand socket was supposed to be in the middle (as schrands is) and should have been warning me that something is wrong with the HST. Which means I won't be using this thing this weekend after all. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif I'll talk to the service guy tomorrow and confirm what this bulb indicates. It does look like a stock part of the wiring harness, one wire to the bulb is red/yellow the other is blue/white. If this does in fact indicate something wrong with the HST it would've been nice to have mentioned it in the manual, and in my case, have it in the correct socket.

Thanks again.

From my recollection the HST light is used on another tractor and there is no sender installed on the BX for the HST.
On my BX 22, there are 5 indicator lights on the left. Starting from the left they are left directional, glow plug, oil pressure, battery, right directional. I can see the three that you describe under these 5, however I have never seen one of them lit in the two years that I have owned the machine. I do know that if you ground one of the wires under the seat that it will turn on a light on the dash, but don't remember the marking of that light. Once again, this wire isn't used on the BX and should not be grounded. The other wire under the seat is for a auxiliary rear work light and is fused. If you ground that one, you will blow the fuse.

Update...

I talked to the service manager at the local Kubota dealer and learned a few things. He checked a wiring diagram for the BX2230 and verified that the lamp in question (with red/yellow and blue/white wiring) is for a thermal sensor on the HST. This was his first encounter with this issue, and I think that, as some of you said, older and/or other BX models don't have this sensor. If you do have it, the lamp should be plugged in the middle socket of the second row on the panel, behind the HST icon.

He searched through all of the other material he had on the 2230 and could find nothing that discussed this sensor. We don't even know where on the HST it is located. I haven't looked for it yet and he didn't have a tractor there to look at but was going to contact Kubota for more info. I haven't heard back from him yet, but between the Fourth of July, one tropical storm, and a hurricane on the way I expect he's been busy with other stuff.

The good news for me is that since the indicator comes on as soon as I switch the key on, it is most likely a problem with the sensor itself or with the wiring since the HST can hardly be too hot when the tractor has not even been running. I'm going to get an FEL soon and he agreed that it should be ok to keep using the tractor until I bring it in for that.

Thanks again for all your comments, and I'll post again when this is resolved for good.
