BX2230 Pricing help needed!

Hi all,
I've been lurking for a little while. I'm scheming for my first tractor. I'm just looked at a mid 00's BX2230 with only 250 hrs. It checked out fine and looked like it was work ready. It has a FEL, and a back blade. Prices is 9.5K.

I've also located a 60" MMM that I could get for about 700.

Thoughts? Would I be able to touch a new one (BX) for anywhere close to this? The 0/0/60 financing is sounding really good.

The BX2360 is the current equivalent to BX2230.

In April I purchased a 2360 with 60" deck and loader valve (no loader) for $11,785. That was financed. Dealer said it would have been another $1500 off if it was a cash deal. Not sure what rebates are available now.

I do not know if a BX2230 is Tier 3 compliant. Not important unless you are buying new and paying a higher price for incremental emission reduction.

I cannot answer your question about dealer pricing. Too much price variation in options. Rather than charge for welding on bucket hooks, for instance, dealer will normally reduce discount....same for optional hydraulic installations; pay for parts, installation "free" as part of the deal. Every dealership has its own ideas. Also, it is unknown how Tier 4 pricing is going to affect new sales in the short term. I would like to buy a 'Grand L' 3560 but the price increase is $6000 over the previous L3540.

Consider buying the BX2230 as a learning experience. After a year you may be ready for a more powerful, heavier tractor and you will have a clearer idea of what options will help you. Nothing like seat time.

If you buy new, now, you may still want a more powerful, heavier tractor in a year but have to eat big depreciation. You are going to bang up your first tractor, learning.

Kubota sells a ton of cute little BX tractors but if you have significant acreage to work you will want something with greater work capacity in time. ( I learned on a seasoned Deere (Yanmar)750 / 20-hp/1,900 pounds )

Call/contact Barlows and price a new one first. Then you'll know how much more your paying for a new one with 0 hours. The used one your mentioning has low hours and is about 10 years old. The "30" designation indicates it was the deluxe model with a few extra features for a lot more money.
My first "learner" tractor was aBX2200 that I bought in August of 2003 with MMM FEL and I paid around $11000 pre sales tax.
I do agree that the first tractor is the "learner" tractor but I don't agree with "it'll get banged up". If you take care of your first tractor you may be satisfied with it's performance and it may be your last or permanent tractor.
Age isn't necessarily a big factor in pricing a tractor but it is a factor. Everyone still wants to know how old it is or how long you've owned it and did you buy it new or used. I do and I'm sure MOST buyers do, maybe not all but MOST.
OK, new tractor with 100% financing with zero (0) down for 60 months and zero (0) percent (almost but not quite with rebate) interest for __???____dollars more than a 10 (give or take 2 or 3 years) old tractor with an unknown maintenance/usage history that if financed for 60 months will cost more than the new one and if cash paid that could be used to pay any other interest bearing debt that will make the old one cost as mucs/almost as much/more than the new one. Now what should you do?)
First get a real delivered to your land price for a new one and then decide if your paying more, less, the same for one almost 10 years old. In this case with these tractors forget the tier stuff because it has nothing to do with this deal/tractor.

I just traded a 2230 in near perfect condition with 54" ,Bagger and FEL. Got 9500 in trade, 368 hours. There are some differences in price based on location.
