bx2230 question

Apparently Kubota doesn't offer a post hole auger for the 2230 (the picture in the brochure has an asterisk indicating it's a third-party accessory). I just ordered a Land Pride post hole auger through my Kobota dealer, but I can't tell you how well it works until I actually get it.

As others have said, you only have one lift mechanism on the BX, and it works both the mower deck and the 3 pt arms. But why would you be mowing with a post hole auger hanging off the back, just waiting for the auger to bang into something every time you back up or gouge the turf as you mow? Why not simply remove it, which takes all of 2 minutes?

It take me at least 20 min. on the BX (the fit is a little complicated on a BX) and that's with the help of a chain hoist. How can you do it in 2 min.?

I just installed the Woods brand posthole digger on my BX2230. It took about 2 hours to assymble and adjust because I got it "in the box" It works surprisingly well with the 9" auger . I set the drop speed on the 3 point hitch all the way down slow so the bit just moves down a little at a time. That way I can pull up the bit if I hear big rocks /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Only downers were the "Made in China" gear box (for COMER an Italian company) and the hole I had to enlargen for the operator handle to fit thru the PTO guard otherwise it works as advertised.

Yes, you're right those little 3pt arms are a bit cramped, but here's the general idea:

You want to rig up a "hitching post" or something you can strap the auger and gearbox to so the thing stands upright when you detach it from the 3pt. That way you can simply unhook it from the tractor like any other implement and drive away without it falling over and you don't have to disassemble the darn thing. I used a 4x4 post, but lots of folks just back up to the nearest tree and tie it so it won't fall over when they unhook; others are even lazier and just drill it into the ground enough so it stays upright (maybe not the best idea if your ground alternately freezes or turns to muck /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif).
