You guys have me thinking about a 2230 but I have some questions. First my situation. I own 7 acres, about 4 are mowed weekly. Here is a link that shows the land while we were building our home back in '99 http://users.ev1.net/~crallen/

We have added fencing, pool, barn, hottub ect. so now there are few straight long shots, ie many turns while mowing. It started out as rough pasture type land. It's doing much better now. I had been maintaining and mowing with a 8N Ford and a 22hp MTD. The MTD is ready to retire/expire.

I know the 2230 will run over the MTD (maybe dig a hole to burry it in?) but how will it compare to the 8N? Will it handle a 5ft boxblade? A posthole digger? A 14in flat bottom plow?

In my opinion (trying to use Bird's tackfulness)
With 7 acres, I'd probably go with a B7500 instead. I have 3.5 acres and my BX2200 is just about right. If I had a few more chores to do, then I would have talked the wife into a B7500 instead.

Well, in my opinion /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif, I agree with gsganzer. The 2230 should be a fine mowing machine and can certainly be used for other chores, also, but for a 5' box blade, post hole digger, and plow, I think you'll sure be happier with a little bigger tractor. And while you'll enjoy the operation of either of the tractors more than the 8N (power steering, HST, etc.) even the B7500 isn't going to have the pulling power of that 8N. In fact, if you can afford it, I strongly believe you'd be happier moving on up to a B7800 or B2910 to use the implements you named.

GG, Bird, thanks for your comments. Sence I posted I went and talked to my dealer. He said pretty much what ya'll said.

Since you have a MTD similar to my 20HP one, and are asking about a 2230 similar to my BX2200, and are being referred towards a B7800 similar to my B2910... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

No doubt in my mind that you want a B7500 at minimum if you can afford it. The BX does not have the same 3ph capacity as the B7500 and bigger.

You can put implements on a bx...but the landscape rake I have on the bx in this picture can not be rotated around unless I back over a dip or a bank, so it can swing without hitting the gound.

My standard size post hole digger cannot work on the BX 3ph as it sits right now. There are modifications that can be made [which I hope to do when the weather warms] that will increase the lift height of the bx 3ph. But with the larger tractors you don't have to modify anything.

My self and others have started looking at the BX and ended up with something bigger. For me it was the B2910 first, and the bx second. If I could only have one...well, the B2910 is my tractor...I guess the BX is my boy... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Bill,
I looked at your picture of your TWO beauties and I can say I'm a little jealous:) Do you know if you can rent a land rake like the one behind your BX. I have a big job ahead in the Spring to level my yard and plant grass. Maybe one of these would make it an easier job.

Thanks,
Steve

Astor,

I forget what I paid but it was under $250 for the KK rake at Tractor Supply Co...

The BX would definitely have trouble with the tools from the 8N but would definitely do the work you need. For the price difference of the smaller tractor you could easily get the new tools to work with the BX as well as a backhoe which is a great tool for many jobs. The added manuverability would be a plus in your tight areas and the only real plus of the bigger tractors might be the 72" deck.
