Thanks teachdocs........we have the same problem for sure. As I read your earlier thread I was afraid i'd picked up a real estate sign too because your description of the noise was so good. A loose chain on a sprocket is good and now that I think back my BX is pretty hot when it seems to occur. I also knew not to take it back to the dealer because they don't have the terrain I do at their lot. I have 20 rough acres and think maybe I push the little BX a little too hard. Its been a real handy tool and other then a few safety switch gremlins and now the clicking its worked like a tractor twice its size. Just wonder if this click is covered under warrenty. Is'nt the drivetrain covered 3 years?

You can reproduce it by doing the following:
This is what my dealer did.

Full operating temperature.
Chain to a large steel post to pull from the rear hitch
AWD on pavement
High range gear
Press HST pedal all the way forward
Clicks are heard

This never happened on my BX 2200. It would just bog down and kill the engine if you kept at it. The BX23 either clicks and does not bog down, or it does not click but bogs down instead.

Cannot reproduce in low range since the tires don't have enough traction.

The condition continued, despite the dealer finding nothing wrong. In the past 2 weeks, it became significantly worse and then began to see performance issues (would not pull a small incline hill, even began to notice in low range). I was about due for my hydrostat fluid change so I went ahead and did that but no help. I took it to the dealer and basically here's what I just found out:

The hydraulic pump is working to specs. Something is losing force in the hydrostat transmission. Need to disassemble the hydrostat transmission and see what's going on.

Today, the really bad news. The hydrostat transmission is complete toast. There is a broken part, something they have never seen broken before. They consider this a very unusual hydrostat failure and are contacting Kubota about it tomorrow. The BX23 only has about 500 hours on it in just over 3 years with all recommended maintenance performed.

I am currently very bummed.

Anyone else ever heard of a BX hydrostat failure?

Teachdocs, sorry to hear about the unusual HST failure. Would it be possible to provide an update please? Can you tell us what parts were faulty, and if repair work was satisfactory?

I blown my 04 BX 23 hydrostat transmission if I recall around the 600 hours just past 3 yr. I was hailing dirt FEL down hill when mine went out. Killed the engine, all other hyro worked so was able to use BH to pull it up on the trailer. My dealer was able to get it all replaced with no cost to me but I was with out it for almost 4 weeks. So far no other problem and now at just over 1000 hrs. So I am hoping that this dont happen again in around the 1500 to 1700 hours. Now that I hear others are having problems.

My 2001 BX2200 did that sound when I was dragging a huge log, scared the stuffing out of me, I thought I'd broke it. I found it would do that right at the point where the HST would hit the relief valve, finally discovered it was the left rear wheel slipping in the tire, I have them filled and the rim was wet around the bead. I put more air in the tire and it stopped slipping, it's always gotten wet around that bead if I load it heavy and pull it hard, especially if the tire pressure was a little low. Wish your problem was that simple.

Oh yeh, that's right. I forgot about the flimsey diff lock thing. There's a ~1/8" piece of flat stock that links the pedal to the lever that actually does the diff lock. I replaced the ~1/8" bar with 1/4" and reported on it some time ago here on TBN. I guess it worked out pretty good cuz I have NO prob in that regard anymore and completely forgot about it. If you need more info, let me know, I'll reply tomorrow. Gotta hit the hay now.
