Kubota BX23
Was operating the tractor a few days ago - all was fine. Shut it off to some things and when started and pushed the pedal forward it was like the parking brake was on. Checked and it wasn't. It has a slow sluggish start in forward and reverse. Also seems to have some loss of power with the loader / backhoe. Hydro fluid level is fine. Any thoughts?

How many hours. If you have some hours on it, change the fluid and filter and check the screen on the HST. Check and make sure the brake is really coming off also. Maybe the pedal comes up but the linkage is stuck.

It really does feel like the brake is on but I have checked the linkage and all is well. Am planning to change the Hydro fluid and filters early next week. I hope that is all it is but seems strange to not have any problem and then a noticeable change in a matter of minutes.

The HST fluid & filter should have been changed at the 300hr maintenance, was this done and did you use SUDT?

If so, it's not scheduled for another change until 600 hrs but that doesn't mean there isn't a problem w/the filter, sump screen or even the fluid.

One test you can try to make sure the brakes aren't sticking inside the HST is to jack the rear up off the ground and see if you can spin the wheels easily. (HST in neutral ofcourse). If they spin easily it's then safe to say that the integral brakes aren't sticking.

In the few cases where I've seen posts on HST failures, the failure was always preceeded by unusual sounds. Either a loud scrapeing metal on metal type sound or loud squealing sounds. Again HST failures are pretty rare and they just didn't happen all of a sudden.
Good luck

Sorry to hear that...Please share your findings as I'm coming up on the 300 hour mark soon...Thanks.

Check all your hydraulic quick disconnects are connected correctly and fully engaged. I have a bx22 and during the first week of ownership I raised the front bucket all the way and my hydraulic line pulled apart at the disconnect. I thought something major happened because of the noise it made. I shut it down immediately thinking something major happened. Took some time to figure it out.

Hope it's something simple like that for you also.

check your power beyond port hose in the back. The short hose that is connected to tractor. Chances are it is popped out a little somehow. I would disconnect and reconnect that hose.
