Recently I've noticed that my BX23 shift/speed lever won't go all the way into high gear (rabbit). It goes about 1/3 of the lever travel and stops there. There's nothing in the way of the linkage. It also pops out of gear which is not surprising.

Low range works fine.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Had similar issue on a BX22. The problem was that the linkage for the neutral switch was warn in such a way that it would bind and not let it get fully into gear. I found where it hung up, took it off and noticed a small indent from wearing against the shift lever and had edges like you get on a chainsaw bar after heavy use. I filed the slope into and out of the indent down to make it easier for the pin to escape the indent, and filed off any sharp edges I could fine.

Actually had to straighten the handle because it was bent from forcing it into gear.

Greased it up good and put it back together. Worked great until the grease started to get dirty with dust/dirt. If it starts sticking again, I reach under the fender with WD-40 and give it a shot. Works good again for a few months. If I get a chance this winter I'll weld up the indent and re-mill the slot.

Hmm well that's interesting because just the other day I noticed that it would start if it was in gear. Maybe these two things are related. Thanks for the suggestion.

Dug into it this weekend to find out what was up. As I said before, I'd pressure washed it and checked the linkages and didn't find anything. Well, as I dug in to get to the neutral switch, I found a tiny (very clean) rock wedged into the bottom of that nook all the linkages are in. Had to wiggle the selector back and forth to pull it out, but it finally came out and all's well with the little 'bota.

Thanks for the neutral switch suggestion, that is what led me to the rock.

Sure is a nice feeling when it is something we can fix and not pay big at the dealer for...

Thanks to all who posted (you can't shift in high or low). Before I read your post, I blew all the debris from the pivot points but it still did not shift. After reading the post above I sprayed carburetor cleaner first and it loosened the sand fines between the pivot point, and it worked then I sprayed wd-40, now Kubota BX23 works like new.
