Hello, First time on the site. I bought a used bx23 last week, I was on a down grade and when I put it in reverse to climb back up the incline it didn't want to go. Wheels were not spinning. I was first in 2 wheel high, went to 4 wheel high and then even 4 wheel low. BX has about 200hours. I did check trans fluid after and was only a cup low so I dought that caused the problem. Yes buying use may be the big picture, but!!!! If somthing is wronge I would rather get it fixed now than later. Ideas

I have a BX2350, and I can tell you it will climb just about any hill, but it has to be in the low range. If I am going up a steep hill, I will put it in 4 low. I have been up some hills that if they were any steeper, I would worry about tipping over backwards. In 4 low, you should have plenty of power to go up any hill that is safe. If not, check the easy stuff first, such as the air filter.

Another item. Are you reving up the engine? The BX is suppose to run at 3200 rpm at full throtle. Don't be afraid to rev it up a little bit.

Welcome to the site.
I've owned a BX23 since new and now have a little over 300 hours on it. It is a great little tractor and has saved me from a lot of back-breaking labor. You will find that high range is pretty much for flat land use, getting from place to place faster. I can run up my steep driveway (23% grade) in high range, but have to get a good running start

I use low range any time I need to do any FEL work, or on hilly ground, as high range just doesn't have the torque. My property is rugged and steep so I am in 4 wheel drive most of the time.

Where you able to back up the incline once you were in 4 low? Sometimes I find myself trying to move the tractor without releasing the brakes. Kubota should have designed in a brake warning lamp, and I have been toying with the idea of adding my own.

Ya, I'll second the parking brake. I have run mine a couple of minutes with the parking brake on if I'm in low range. I keep asking myself "why is the engine lugging down and why does the HST have that whine to it", then I realize the brake is on.

Don't worry, nothing wrong with your tractor. :)

I have a BX24 now with 40hrs. When I had about 28hrs the same thing happened to me. It just doesn't have the hydraulic pressure to move the tractor up steep hills even at a high rpm when starting out on the hill at least in reverse. Haven't tried it in forward as I now just take it easy in low gear on steep hills. I would imagine if I had momentum going up the hill it would have been fine, but starting out in high gear it will just not go.

Just put it in low gear when working on hills and don't worry about the tractor just your safety, these tractors can be tippy.

When I purchased my BX2660 new last year I had a problem with backing up the same hill I had no problems with using my previous BX2230. The ground speed also seemed slower. The pressure on the hydro static drive was too low. Dealer corrected and now performs well. For me it wasn't an parking brake issue, but I have also done that. Still question why there is no indicator light for that.

I want to thank everyone for there input. Thinking back, It did back up when I was in 4 low. But at the time I was nervise on how to hold the brake (so I didn't roll down the slope any farther, would not have been a good thing) and trying to push the pedal down for reverse. I think Johnny hit the fact I had stopped and now starting from a dead stop was making thing harder. Once it did start to move it seem to climb out but I was using the BH to help. I too have a steep driveway and seem to climb fine as long as thing are in motion. BTW the brake is a problem, I'm sure it has caught everyone.

I to hate the brake thing. I may post me a big sign "RELEASE BRAKE" and glue it to something. I was doing some boxblade work around our church one day and had went fine for several passes. At one point I started bogging down and it started getting embarassing as the men were standing around watching. Some were tractor owners and I had told them my Kubota would pull any of their tractors. I have 4wd and they don't. I finally looked down and I had done the tilling and most of the leveling in the Mid range. It was a B7800. When I put it in low I could have done the grading and pulled their tractors.:D The gearing has to fit the incline or job. I've done the don't moves on BX's B's and L's when not in 4wd and low enough range. When you get more used to the tractor you won't hardly ever use the brake, just the pedal but be in the right range or you'll pucker.

I have herd that the older bx units had sub par brakes and would move but my 2350 will not move just wine if I try to move it with the parking break on.

AND when the HST is under load, you actually want to push the pedal LESS. Generates less torque the more you push it down.

Basic, but frequent mistake for new operators.
