Just did my 300 hr maintenance and, of course, the strainer was an afterthought.
Now that she is full of new fluid, can the left side be jacked up and the screen cleaned with a minimal loss of fluid??

Same here, I just put in high dollar amsoil and didnt clean the strainer . I plan to jack mine up and clean it, I was wondering if I could stick a cork in the hole and try to save fluid.

Mbman,
After your post, I decided to do my 300 hr service at 225hrs, I'm glad I did, removed the screen and it had metal shavings like yours, wish I'd cleaned the screen earlier. After I removed the screen, I cleaned the shavings out of the banjo fitting and pulled it aside and stuck my finger in the housing and pulled shavings out of there too. I would not have suspected there would have been that much trash in there.

Important Safety Tip: Don't stick your fingers into dark oily inaccessible places where they can get cut up or even stuck. Best thing here would be to insert something like an inspection magnet to attract any metal particles. If you can't find one, go to Radio Shack & get some of those mega-powerful neodymium magnets & glue them onto a stick. Or use a cow magnet (yes, there is such a thing).

I used brake cleaner spray and compressed air to clean the strainer.

Might pay to buy a replacement and be ready to screw the new one right back in as the old one comes out. I'll check the price tomorrow and post what I find out.
