I took a break, had a nice steak dinner, and went back with all of your suggestions. There was a 15 amp blown fuse labeled as "solenoid" in the fuse block. I replaced the fuse but the engine continued to run. I checked the fuse and it was blown again. Now we're getting somewhere.
Traced the harness area to the front left corner of the engine where it splits off for the headlights. A line had dropped down onto the muffler, melted, and had a short against the muffler. This must be the wire to the fuel solenoid. I isolated the short, replaced the fuse, and now she is sitting quietly til tomorrow morning.
Thanks to all of you for the helpful advice. The forum is not only helpful, but came to the rescue in a time crunch! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
