I found a BX23, 2001, he says, with 550 hours on it.$10,500. Assuming it looks ok , how can I tell if the tranny is OK? Or do they last forever? Thanks, Rusty
I'm not sure but I think the BX23 was made in 2003 and 2004? I bought mine in Dec. 2004 and the BX24 hit the market around the end of 2005. I'd get it real hot and try to stall it against something in 4 wheel drive. Look up under it and see if all the blades are on the hydro fan and boots were still intact.
From what I had read, the HST trannys are built to last for a long time. Much longer the 500 hours. The pushing idea does sound like a good test. I would also inspect around the housing for any signs of leaks. If the machine appears to be well kept, that tranny should go 1000s of hours more.
I don't think even the BX22 was out in 2001. I bought my BX2200 in 2000 and all the big heated debate re. whether such a sized tractor could take a backhoe had not begun yet. In fact, I remember talking to a guy in 2002 who had bought a B series because it had a bh. He'd wanted a BX, but since no BX had a bh, he had to shell out for the B series. I think the BX22 came out in late 2002 or early 2003. The BX23 was even later.
If one piece of info. is wrong, the greater the chance that more of it is suspect as well.
