Mowing BX2350 Mid-Mount Mower Height Adjustment

I have a BX 2350 and originally had Bar type tires. I recently made a deal with my local dealer for Turf tires because I was tearing up my lawn... turf work great! BUT, the actual height of my mower deck (blades) is 1/2" lower than the height adjustment knob indicates. How (or what) can I adjust to make the height adjust dial match actual height of the blade?

You got that right. I had to install my 54" deck from my BX1850 on my BX1860 after trade in and I"ve spent probably 3 hours so far (not all at once) fiddling with the deck height/level adjustments and it's still not perfect. It may be good enough though after 3 hours of fiddling.

Agreed, I made the mistake of trying to fine tune my deck and now I think it's more off than when I first got it. Finally just said heck with it and left it, it works fine but probably not the best cut.

There are little turnbuckle like mechanisms connected to the top the lift arms. Their primary purpose is to be able to level the two sides of the deck so that left and right are equal height (otherwise successive passes will cut sloped swaths and the grass will have an up/down/up down look). You can try adjusting both of these an equal amount. I don't know if there's enough play in them to add/subtract the difference you're looking for, but this is the mechanism your question addresses. You will need basic hand tools, one sack of pixie dust and a goat to sacrifice if the adjustment is successful.

Seriously. You can follow the manual instructions exactly and it won't help. Takes a provocative combination of expletives, magic and trial/error to adjust an MMM.

If you are getting a level cut, the numbers on the knob just don't matter. It's a metric tractor anyway, no reason to go OCD.

I should have added... If you get it to match the height numbers, and get it to cut level, it almost certainly won't lock in the "TOP" position! By then you'll definitely wish you'd left it alone!
Most decks come from the dealers out of adjustment. They can't get them just right either!

Your suggestion sounds the best!... I needed a good laugh.

My dealer has offered for me to come in and meet with the mechanic who sets up the tractors... I hope to meet with him this week or next. I'll let everyone know if there really is a way to do this.

If you ever decide to "adjust" your MMM, get a large ball peen hammer and begin whacking yourself in the forehead carefully rotating ends every stroke and continue for a minimum of thirty-five minutes or until you lose consciousness. That way, in comparison adjusting your deck won't seem so bad and chances are you will have forgotten all about doing it anyway.

And I thought I was just so stupid. Guess I have some company here. Deck height in centimeters...fore and aft.... Blade height fore and aft.....Anti-scalp wheel height...fore and aft. Left and right. I got numbers that are generally reasonable and agree that this MMM wasn't right from the dealer. But how about some general rules for adjustment. For example...the front blade height should be higher than the rear blade height. Right? ....by about 1/2" or less.
As to the full moon, it has been cloudy and raining here so long that the moon nor sun don't shine. I guess this leads one to do crazy things.:confused2:

It took me a full case of beer and the owner of a competitive tractor dealership to get my deck within 1/2" of being level. He told me that he had never seen such a dumb design for adjusting a deck. I occasionaly check how high the blades are off the concrete drive and use Kentucky windage to adjust the knob to meet what height I want to cut. As others have said if you want your yard to look that good I think that you should have bought a "lawn mower". But then again most lawn mowers don't have a beer holder like my tractor. I think that helps me justify when the yard doesn't look the best. I blame the beer.

I am into my first season of mowing with my bx-24, and i have wasted many hours over the last month trying to level off the deck. I finally got it close enough and said the heck with it, I took out the machine and cut my side lawn. I looked it over and it looked good so i cut the front yard it looks acceptable to me. I know it is still not to spec, but enough is enough.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I was able to adjust my 54" mmm (bx2350) in about a half an hour. It was a good bit out of adjustment from the previous owner, but is now darn near perfect. Some tricks that may help: Make your adjustments while on a level, flat, concrete floor. Have the tractor set up the way you will be cutting the yard, such as removing the loader and weight bucket before making adjustments. Properly set all tire pressures before making adjustments. Each one of these tips if ignored can easily introduce a 1/4" or more of change in the way you tractor "sits". As mentioned by others, don't worry about trying to make the cutting height match what the knob says. That's just crazy talk!

BX expanded pretty much hit the way my deck works on the head. It cuts level, pretty close to the height it should, but it wouldn't lock in the top position to save my life.

After searching some more posts, it appears that I made an error in my previous post. Apparently the front tip of blade height should be not higher but a smidge lower than the back tip when parrallel, i.e. about 1/8" of an inch. Now, I feel better that I haven't mislead anybody. But if you can measure 1/8" of an inch differance, you must be Houdini.

I think alot has to do with the deck also. Are they using the right deck or did they modify a deck from say a BX22 to fit a BX24. If I recall Roma was looking for a BX22 deck and was going to cut and reweld parts. That may throw off adjustments in itself.

I also have a BX2350 and have tried to attach the mower deck. I am having difficulty with the height adjustment. The book I have is not too helpful. Are there additional adjustments to linkage that I need to do? Please advise
